General Information
Parents and guardians,
A different educational environment has existed for six weeks and we are working steadily to make up for lost time. Reports from the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) used a national sample of over five million students in grades 3–8 taking MAP® Growth™ and found students will have a decline in reading readiness and a steeper decline in math readiness this fall. What does this mean? What is the school doing? How can you help? What works and what is counterproductive? Here is what we know:
- First - research also shows children are resilient - How? The single most common factor for children who develop resilience is at least one stable and committed relationship with a supportive parent, caregiver, or other adult (Harvard) Note: our students are so good! they are so happy! - thank you!
- Second - the curriculum the school is using is focused on growth. Please continue to help the campus in the following ways: Have your child read 30 minutes every night (RAZ Kids is a great app to help with this) and complete five to eight lessons in Dreambox each week.
- Third - ask your child about what was read, what they understood? Not sure what to ask? Here are some "go to questions." What do you think about....?" "What would you say if someone disagreed with you?" "Could you teach this to me?" "What would that look like if... ?" "Could you summarize your main points in two sentences?"
Working together our students will achieve more.
Wishing you all good health and much happiness,
Marci Formby
