After School Pick Up

Overall, after school pick up is going well. The warmer weather helps in this manner so that more students can walk. We are still dealing with a couple of parents parking in the parking lot and trying to get their children to "just run across". Please stay in line so that your child and others can stay safe. You are always welcome to park at Rock Fields and have your child cross with the patrols if this plan does not work for you. Thank you!

BBC Booster Message

Bridgewater families!

This year we are excited to partner with Booster for our annual Fun Run. On May 4th we will be kicking off a 2 weeklong program that will lead up to our Fun Run event on May 14th. Our students will be gathering pledges from sponsors before they run 30-35 laps to help our school.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 for new outdoor basketball court (facelift/update of the old one) & On-Site Field Trip(s). Donating will open on April 20th and here is how you can help.

  1. REGISTER your student(s) on funrun.com today. It takes 30 seconds!
  2. SHARE with 5 family/friends using the SHARE tools on funrun.com (Facebook, Text Message or Email) Students will earn rewards just for sharing from funrun.com.
  3. GIVE a donation if you are able to give.

Here is a quick video overview of our fundraising program. CLICK HERE

We are working hard to make this fundraiser safe, fun, and successful for everyone!

Fundraiser Kick Off - 5/4

Lion Fun Run - 5/14

SAVE THE DATE!

Thank you for working with us to make our school stronger. We are grateful for your support!

On May 4th we are kicking off our Bridgewater Fun Run Fundraiser, and we are excited to announce that all of our students will be able to participate in the fun at school or home! Starting on April 20th, families can register on FunRun.com and start collecting pledges for the fun run. We have a goal to raise $25,000 for new Outdoor Basketball Hoops & On-Site Field Trip(s).

Here is what you can expect from the program:

- On May 4th the program will start with a digital pep rally that students will watch at school or at home.

- Then May 5th-May 13th your student(s) will watch a daily video all about teamwork, courage, care, grit, and celebration.

- Finally, we will celebrate our hard work of fundraising with a Fun Run and a Dance Fit for our Portage families!

The Fun Run will be outside and each grade will run at the same time; however, each class will be on a separate track (like a cloverleaf). In the event of inclement weather, then the event will be converted to a Dance Fit (like the video game Just Dance) and will be done in each individual classroom.

We are working with Superintendent Hillmann, the MN Dept. of Health & the MN Dept. of Education about whether or not friends & family will be permitted to attend - socially distanced - and cheer on the students.

Be on the lookout for more information to come from our Friday S'mores newsletters!

You can help our school by registering your student on funrun.com, starting April 20th, then share your student's pledge link with friends and family. If your family is not able to give at this time that is OKAY. Sharing your student's pledge link is still supporting our school.

We are grateful for our amazing community!

Earth Day

Earth Day is on April 22nd. This is a great opportunity for all of us to look for ways that we can care for and protect our earth. Simple habits such as recycling and composting can make a big difference.

Severe Weather Awareness

This week was Severe Weather Awareness Week. The state conducted a tornado drill on Thursday. Due to state testing, we will practice our drill later this month. More information is available at www.severeweather.state.mn.us if you would like more details. Please make sure that you have a home plan as well, and practice this with your children so they are prepared.

End-of-Year Activities

Just letting you know that we are putting together plans for the end of the year that include the 4th & 5th grade Track & Field Day and 5th Grade Graduation. We will get this information out to you as soon as we get the details pulled together. We want this year to be memorable for more than just the pandemic. We are grateful to have students back in-person so that some things can be normal. Whew!

Summer PLUS

2021 SUMMER PLUS (current K-5 students) will be held July 19 - August 19, Mondays - Thursdays each week, 9:30a - 3:00p. Summer Plus is a free program for students who meet state qualifications and district criteria. Programming will focus on literacy skill development, STEAM activities, and social/emotional learning. Youth registration forms will be sent home mid to end of April.

MCAs (Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments)

MCAs start next week for 3rd-5th graders across the state of MN. The Reading MCA will take place next week, and the Math MCA the week of April 19th. The best preparation is getting plenty of sleep the night before. We encourage students to try their very best.

Community Book Drive

We are holding a Community Book Drive to distribute free books to kids in Northfield! Can you help us out with this? If you have new or gently used books, you can place them in one of the Northfield Rotary Club collection bins located around town – including at Bridgewater, Greenvale Park, and Sibley Elementary Schools; the Northfield Community Education Center, (700 Lincoln Parkway); the Northfield Middle School; the Northfield Area Family YMCA; and the Northfield Community Resource Center. Content Bookstore has a link that is still up that you can order online directly or donate funds! You can also send the books in with your child and we can get them to the drop off locations. Thanks for your support in spreading the love of reading!
