February 8 - 12, 2016 - Serve, Lead & Inspire
Hello Lopez Families,
We have selected a new assistant principal! Hector Perales comes to us from Eisenhower Middle School with over 15 years of middle school experience. He has always been known as someone who supports and gets to know the students. We are excited to have him. He will begin on our campus February 16th, so if you see him, be sure to say hello.
Don't forget Friday, February 12th is an Early Release day for our students. Students will get out of school at 1:25 pm. Then on Monday, February 15th, there will be no school as students are out for President's Day.
This past Thursday night, I attended the district PTA Founder's Day. It was a wonderful night that recognized new honorees for PTA lifetime memberships. It reminded me just how much our PTA does for us and helps provide for our students. We have a wonderful group of PTA officers that really go above and beyond for all of us. Thank you so much!
Recently, the Lopez staff voted for our Teacher of the Year. The award is for teachers, librarians and counselors who are skillful and dedicated to inspire a love of learning in students of all backgrounds and abilities. This year, Lopez selected our Librarian, Roxanne Jenke. Many outside the school system do not realize what all a school librarian does for students. Her responsibilities go far beyond keeping books on the shelf and she takes those responsibilities to a new level. No one does it like her. You should see her teach classes in the library - truly inspiring. We are lucky she calls Lopez home. Thank you Mrs. Jenke!

Ian's Cup Spring Soccer Clinic and Fundraiser
Calling all Soccer Players! Ian’s Foundation will be offering their annual spring soccer clinic for the San Antonio youth as one of their major fundraisers for the Ian's Cup scholarship fund (formerly known as The Fincke Cup). The clinic will be held on Sunday, February 28th at the Mays YMCA from 2-4 pm (with registration from 1:30-2:00). The cost of the clinic is $30 if pre-registered and $35 the day of the clinic. It will include a 2-hour clinic as well as a 2016 Ian's Cup t-shirt (pictured to the left and while supplies last).
The deadline for t-shirt pre-orders and pre-registration for the soccer clinic to ensure a 2016 Ian's Cup t-shirt is Monday, February 15th, but pre-registration for the clinic will remain open through Saturday, February 27th at 6PM. Trainers will include local high school coaches, club trainers and high school soccer players from Johnson and Reagan, as they must volunteer at one of the foundation's community service events to be eligible for a scholarship.
Please refer to the soccer clinic flyer for more information about this event, t-shirt sales, the Ian's Cup Match, and a fundraiser they are having at Beefy's Backyard on February 23rd - 24th. More information about the foundation, volunteer and sponsorship opportunities, as well as upcoming events can be found at www.IansCup.com.
Carnations for Valentines
Sharpen the Saw: Give from the Heart. Purchase carnations from a Lopez PAL this week. Carnations are being sold at all lunches and before/after school for only $1.00. Colors to choose from - pink, red, yellow and peppermint. Pick-up will be before school on Friday, February 12.
The Lopez PALs have set a goal to sell 600 carnations!
This is a win-win for all as the net proceeds go to the Wounded Warriors Foundation, as well as making someone else feel special.
Thank you,
PALs and Mrs. Volz
