Humble ISD offers free meals to students beginning Tuesday
Humble ISD invites parents to pick up meals at no cost for their children from March 17-20. Here are a few details to know:
- Children and students should be present to receive a meal. The meals are for children 1-18 years old and all Humble ISD students.
- Families, please remain in your cars to maintain social distancing. Humble ISD staff will bring meals to your vehicle as you drive through car rider/bus lanes. For those individuals who plan to walk and pick up meals, please follow the directions of staff on site at each location.
- Thank you, individuals and groups that offered to volunteer! Unfortunately, the district is unable to accept your kind offers at this time. Part of our containment strategy is limiting crowds and contact.
- Reservations are not required but are greatly appreciated to help us have the correct quantity at each location. Submit your Reservation for Tuesday, March 17
- Breakfast will be provided from 8 to 10 a.m. and lunch will be provided from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 17-20 at Elm Grove Elementary School, Oaks Elementary School, Ridge Creek Elementary School, River Pines Elementary School, Humble Middle School, and Ross Sterling Middle School.
- The daily menu and reservation form will be posted to www.humbleisd.net
A Letter from Mrs. Lilly
Dear ESE Families,
I hope that you are all healthy and well. As concerns surrounding COVID-19 continue to arise, I feel that it is important to take a moment to view this crisis through the eyes of our students. Children look to us for guidance on how to react to new and stressful situations. With that being said, we must remain calm and reassuring in our approach. Encourage children to talk about their feelings and help them reframe their concerns into appropriate perspective. Talking with children about their fears gives them a sense of control and can help reduce anxiety. As parents, you know your children best. Let their questions be your guide as you navigate discussion. A few key points to consider include:
Keep explanations age-appropriate
Monitor television viewing and social media
Maintain a normal routine (to the extent possible)
Review and model basic hygiene and healthy lifestyle practices
Reach out to your child's teacher, school counselor, and/or administration for help with resources, and social-emotional support.
Please know that I am available for every student and family. I can be reached via email Monday-Friday from 7:30-4:00. Should your student need to speak with me, please make an appointment by sending an email. I will work to set up a face- to- face meeting via Zoom. (You would need to download the app to your mobile device and wait to receive a meeting code to join.) Should you have general questions or concerns of any kind, I encourage you to email me. I will do my best to answer your question, or direct you to someone who can assist you.
Many families have 504 meetings scheduled. We are waiting on directives from the district on how to proceed. If you have a meeting scheduled, I will be making contact with you to discuss options.
I have placed a few resources on my website for your use. As a district counseling team, we are researching ways to provide students and families with technology-based options such as Zoom, Google Voice, See-Saw, etc. Please check Twitter daily for campus announcements and challenges for students. Your patience is greatly appreciated as we continue to navigate this current situation. Our team will be in frequent contact with families to provide you with information regarding resources, news, virtual meetings, and to address any questions and concerns that you may have.
During times such as this, we must continue to exercise optimism and hopefulness. We are strong, brave, and resilient. I have no doubt that we will ban together as a nation, state, community, and eagle family to get through this together!
Sincerely,
Doddie Lilly
