60 SECONDS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT
Young adult author and novelist Mr. Jordan Sonnenblick recently visited Strongsville Middle School. The visit was coordinated by Mrs. McKnight, SCS Literacy Coach. Mr. Sonnenblick’s presentation to all of the grade levels included inspiring messages about following your dreams and being the best you can be. The visit also included a lunch with a select group of SMS students who wrote an essay on why they would like to meet the author. Click HERE for this week’s episode, as we hear from SMS teachers and students, as well as Mr. Sonnenblick on his visit to our District.
MUSTANG SPOTLIGHT - MRS. MICHELLE HOLLAND, 5TH GRADE TEACHER AT SURRARRER ELEMENTARY
Mrs. Michelle Holland has been a teacher in our District for 21 years. Mrs. Holland has worked at a number of different buildings with multiple grade level experience, including kindergarten at Whitney and Chapman Elementary, 4th and 6th grade at Allen Elementary, 7th grade at Albion and Strongsville Middle Schools, and now as a 5th grade teacher at Surrarrer Elementary. She earned her undergraduate degree from Bowling Green State University and has a graduate degree from Cleveland State University.
“I love seeing kids grow - not just academically, but socially and emotionally too. I love seeing how their teamwork and hard work pays off. I especially enjoy witnessing an ah-ha moment, helping grow their confidence, and providing opportunities for kids to discover and develop their own unique gifts,” said Mrs. Holland.
She added, “I love teaching kids and learning from them, but I am also blessed to be surrounded by a dedicated, supportive, and inspirational group of colleagues! I'm lucky enough to have had the opportunity to teach in the same building as my family - with my brother-in-law at Albion and Strongsville Middle School and now with my sister, who also teaches at Surrarrer - and to have also made friends who are very much like family throughout my years in Strongsville!”
Thank you Mrs. Holland for the countless lives you have impacted at many different grade levels throughout our District! #WeAreStrongsville
WINTER WEATHER REMINDER FROM DR. RYBA
As we head into February, it looks like winter and winter weather may finally be arriving. This means that we are sure to have some days where the temperature, snow, ice, or all of the above will impact our ability to open for school. Please click here to familiarize yourself with the possible delays/closures and the process that I use to make these decisions. Remember, as parents you know what is best for your child(ren). If the decision is made to keep schools open and you feel it is best to keep your child(ren) home, you have the right to do so and it will be considered an excused absence.
