Principal's Message
Welcome to our Week 5 newsletter. This week has been a very hot week with lots of smoke and high winds on Tuesday. For student safety we always monitor the weather conditions and at recess on Tuesday we had inside play to ensure that our students and staff were not impacted by the smokey conditions.
Student Supervision Before School
Many students are regularly arriving at school prior to supervision beginning. At Prestons Public School our supervision roster starts at 8.30am. There are no staff available to supervise your child in the playground prior to this time. We understand that many parents may have commitments at work which require them to start earlier than 8.30. There is a Before and After School Care service which operates within the school from 7am each morning. As an alternative you ay be able to make arrangements with friends or neighbours for the supervision of your children before school. Whatever arrangements individual families make, it is important to understand that parents and carers remain responsible for their children prior to 8.30am when the school's supervision begins. We ask that parents and carers do not leave their child at school before 8.30am. Please feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss this matter further.
New Building Update
The new buildings are coming close to completion. Our hall will be ready for our Presentation Day on Tuesday 10 December 2019 and our new learning spaces will be handed over to us on Monday 9 December 2019. We will use the remaining weeks of school for teachers to prepare these spaces for 2020. There will, of course, be special tours organised for our students and of course our families. Stay tuned for invitations to these tours on or school facebook page.
School Uniform
We are proud of our wonderful school which provides a truly engaging learning environment for all of our students. A key part of our school values is pride and respect. With respect of the school expectations and pride in our selves comes pride in learning and achievements. Thank you to all of our families for supporting us by ensuring that students are sent to school in full school uniform. Our Stage 3 students have been setting a great example and it is great to see that they are not wearing tights or coloured jumpers. I love to see our students demonstrating respect and pride in them selves and in our great school. (this is also great preparation for high school and the expectations at high school for our senior students)
Communication
Our whole school communication platform, Seesaw is a great way for parents to engage with their chid's class and to see the learning that is taking place each day. We encourage all families to sign up to seesaw. Please contact your child's classroom teacher if you need assistance with this. We also are asking families to subscribe to our newsletter so that the newsletter can be emailed directly to your inbox each Wednesday. Just click on the subscribe link and add your email address.
Have a wonderful week and don't forget to ask your child what they are learning.

School Travel 2020
2020 school travel applications now open
Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday, 11 October 2019.
Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:
· are continuing at the same school
· are residing at the same address
· have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.
Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.
Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.
Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.
If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails
Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.
Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.

Classroom Chat with 4 Turtles
4 Turtles have been busy bees this term learning about many different things.
In literacy we have been exploring poetry and have published our Limericks and Free Structure poems both in class and on SeeSaw. Hope you have enjoyed looking at our work.
In mathematics we have been practising our multiplication skills through repeated addition and grouping. We have also learnt about factors and multiples.
We were very respectful during our Remembrance Day thinking about how lucky we are here at Prestons.
In science we are exploring the Forces in Nature looking at how gravity affects speed and movement.
4 Turtles are very excited about the up coming colour run, so don’t forget to bring your white shirts in! Don’t miss out.
Thanks for a Turtle-riffic year.
