All-Star Announcements

What's Going On at Venable School - August 2018

Check out the new All-Star Lineup!

A warm welcome to the newest Venable staff members. We've assembled the best team yet, and are so excited to get the year started. Here's a little bit about each of our new staff members.
Please log onto Powerschool to complete re-registration forms for the new school year. We are collecting these forms electronically this year to save time and trees! Be sure to indicate your preferences for having your child's information shared with PTO for our popular PTO directory, your permissions for posting photos or student art, field trip permissions, and more. You can also access your child's bus route in Powerschool.

Open House

Monday, Aug. 20th, 1-3pm

406 14th Street Northwest

Charlottesville, VA

Come visit your new classroom and meet your teacher. You may also drop off any school supplies that you don't want to send on the first day of school! We will have tables set up to assist with transportation, lunch accounts, and online re-registration. Venable t-shirts will also be on sale.

4th Grade Big Read

All of our 4th graders will start the year reading and discussing Wishtree by Katherine Applegate. Classroom teachers will read the book aloud, giving us all a shared book to talk about. Fun activities will take place during Encore classes that supplement the reading. Our book study will culminate with our own Wish Tree at Venable, which we will create during Back to School Night. We are in need of white bedsheets that can be torn into wish strips (and volunteers to create the strips). Please let Mrs. Kershner if you can donate a sheet or your time. Thanks!

Shannon Grant Recipients

Congratulations to Carolyn Hawkes, Carolyn Gosse, and Traci Martin. They have received Shannon Grants to implement innovative ideas in their classrooms. Our Early Childhood Special Education classroom is getting new books, dramatic play items, and furniture to support early literacy. Mrs. Martin is designing a weather and garden information station to be housed in the gym hallway for all students to use.
