What's Going On at Venable School - August 2018
Check out the new All-Star Lineup!
A warm welcome to the newest Venable staff members. We've assembled the best team yet, and are so excited to get the year started. Here's a little bit about each of our new staff members.

Samantha Kayser
Samantha is joining our 2nd grade team as a classroom teacher. She has taught Kindergarten and 2nd grade for 8 years in Northern Virginia, and just moved to Charlottesville with her husband, Dillon, a resident at UVA, and daughter Lena. Samantha holds a Master's degree in Reading, in addition to elementary education.
Pablo L὚pez Oro
Pablo will be joining us as a 1:1 instructional assistant this year. Pablo was a 2009 Teach For America corps member in New York City. He taught middle school Spanish at Esperanza Preparatory Academy.
Calder McLellan
Calder will be our math specialist this year. She has worked for the last 8 years at Burnley-Moran Elementary. She taught 1st and 3rd grades, and most recently served as the math specialist there. She has hit the ground running already with our staff, and we are excited to have her helping us learn and implement a new math curriculum resource this year.

Daniel is joining us as an instructional assistant in Kindergarten, working with Ms. Efford this year. He is a recent graduate of Morehouse College, and moved to Charlottesville to begin a Master's degree in educational psychology. Daniel has a wealth of experience working with middle school students through Breakthrough Collaborative and the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth.
Michelle Schettler
Michelle is joining us as an instructional assistant in kindergarten this year, working with Ms. Hamilton. Michelle taught third grade for a number of years in both Washington, DC and North Carolina before staying home with her two All-Stars (Mady, 1st grade, and James, preK).
Alec Hopkins
Alec is joining us as a 2nd grade instructional assistant this year. Alec is a recent graduate of UVA with a degree in History. He enjoys reading and playing music. He has worked at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts for three summers helping to maintain the park. He would like to become a music teacher one day, and is looking forward to gaining experience with younger children as an instructional assistant.
Please log onto Powerschool to complete re-registration forms for the new school year. We are collecting these forms electronically this year to save time and trees! Be sure to indicate your preferences for having your child's information shared with PTO for our popular PTO directory, your permissions for posting photos or student art, field trip permissions, and more. You can also access your child's bus route in Powerschool.
