Bobcat Bulletin

Week of August 9th

From the Desk of Principal Schmid

Welcome to the first official Bobcat Bulletin of the 21-22 school year! We are so glad you are here! If you are a new family and missed the summer update, you can find it here. Communication is critical in our partnership, so please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions!

As we begin the school year, you can expect the newsletter on Fridays to outline the events of the week(s) ahead. As I mentioned in the summer update, the newsletter is organized as follows:

1. Updates: New or updated information to share

2. Reminders: Information that has been shared in prior newsletters (with no changes or updates) but are reminders of upcoming deadlines/events

3. PTA Updates: Updates from our amazing PTA! Find all different ways to get involved in your children's education experience!

4. Upcoming Dates: Cross-check your calendar with this section. If dates are mentioned in the bulletin, they are consolidated in one place here!

I am bursting with excitement to have our Brookdale Dream Team (staff) officially back on the 16th (many have been in throughout the summer preparing!), and our Bobcat students back on the 19th! Dr. Talley will again be here to help us kick off the school year by ringing the bell (check out the pictures below!)! We feel fortunate that he started and ended his year last year with us by ringing the first and last bell of the year during his first year in the district!

Education is the only profession that gets a completely fresh start, and it is something I find to be refreshing and exciting! Negativity will engulf us if we let it; I encourage you to join me in finding the positive because our world needs more of it! Our kids deserve the best, and we are ready to bring our best to our students!

We are ALL still standing strong after the events from last year, stronger and better than ever!

Let's do this!

Brookdale's Proud Principal,

Mrs. Keeley Schmid

District Message

August 4th, 2021

District 204 Community,

Today Governor Pritzker issued a mask mandate for all P-12 schools regardless of vaccination status, effective immediately. Indian Prairie School District 204 will evaluate how this mandate impacts our mitigation efforts and fall plans. We will incorporate this new information into our update for the board of education meeting on Monday, August 9. As I’ve mentioned previously, we will continue to monitor our community data (e.g., positivity rate, cases per 100,000, etc.) as we examine the guidance from the DuPage County Health Department and the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The board of education meeting will be held at Metea Valley High School and will be livestreamed on the District’s YouTube channel.

Our focus for this fall is to get our students back into our schools for full in-person learning and keep them healthy so they are able to remain there.

Adrian B. Talley, Ed.D.

Summer Book Checkout

Thank you to everyone who came out to check out books during our Summer Book Checkout! We can't wait to hear about all the great reading our Bobcats have been doing this summer!

Welcome, Kindergartners!

If you have not already, please complete our Kindergarten questionnaire. This helps us in ensuring we are prepared and ready to support your child the moment they walk into the halls of Brookdale! No one knows your child better than you, so we appreciate your support in providing this critical information.

We look forward to welcoming our youngest learners, our kindergarten students! They officially begin on August 20th with a kindergarten orientation on the 19th. See schedule below based on your child's last name. Two students with different last names? Pick one!

*A parent/guardian should plan to attend with the kindergarten student.

Kindergarten August 19th Schedule

A-F: 9:30-10:15

G-M: 10:30-11:15

N-R: 1:00-1:45

S-Z: 2:00-2:45

Meet and Greet

Come meet your teacher and other members of our Brookdale Dream Team on Tuesday, August 17th! This is also a great opportunity to drop off your child's supplies (if you ordered a supply kit, they will be placed in your child's classroom).

Meet and Greet is a GO, and we are happy to provide the opportunity for you to come inside the building to see the environment in which your child will be learning! However, in order to make this event fun AND safe, we have made a few adjustments:

1. Please come at the below time based on your child's last name. Your children have different last names? No problem, pick one!

August 17th:

A-M 8:30-9:15

N-Z 9:15-10:00

2. Masks must be worn inside the building.

We appreciate your help in following the modifications above. Our adherence to these modifications will help us in continuing to have events in the future at Brookdale that we all missed last year!

Have You Registered Yet?

If you have not registered, your child will not have a classroom teacher to begin the year. Please see below in ways to get registered:
