Week 17

Sweet Christmas time was always a favorite growing up. The excitement and anticipation was one of the best feelings in the world! Mom and Dad never taught me to believe in Santa because Daddy said he "didn't want to lie to his kids". But we always had a tree, lots of presents and wonderful food. My favorite Christmas happened when I was in the 8th grade. It was a particularly hard year for me because there were some girls who gave me a hard time. We all know girls can be mean and I really struggled that year in junior high. But Christmas Break came and provided sweet relief. I opened presents and got almost everything I had asked for. Except one thing--I wanted a rabbit fur coat more than anything! My heart sank a little when all the presents under the tree had been opened but I never said a word. I'm not sure if my parents knew what was going on at school, but thinking back it seems maybe they had an idea. I will never forget looking up as my Daddy brought in the most beautiful black rabbit fur coat in the history of the world! I'm pretty sure we all cried. Mom and Dad had made everything right and I will never forget that feeling.

My wish is that we could make everything right for all of our children. Not just on Christmas Day but every single day. We have the power to change lives and make a difference in 283 little souls. Little human beings. Beautiful children we see every day and even though we sometimes wonder why we do what we do--we continue the journey. Keep these children in your heart and on your mind as you enjoy family this season.

Praise Prompts

So here are some ideas for some effort and process orientated praise that you could use to encourage a Growth Mindset:

I noticed that you went back to….
You have really grown at …..
The steps you took must have really helped you…
I see that you have been trying so hard at …
You are becoming more confident at ….
Go on you for taking on such a hard task …
You are taking on harder tasks and that must make you feel confident.
I like the way that you ….
You must have tried really hard at this.
I see that you are giving that a go, great thinking.
You remembered to use the procedure for ….
It must feel good to follow those steps you have taken.
What a brilliant way to approach the task.
I noticed you are thinking through the steps we discussed.
You were confident with the task and I know you will be with the next step.
I am watching the way you’re approaching this and I think your effort is outstanding.
