Social Media/Communication Intern/Volunteer

Organization Description:

La Center United is a community coalition made up of individuals, businesses, and agencies who all share a vision for a healthy and resilient community. La Center United seeks to be a community resource hub by promoting and connecting individuals to existing services and opportunities and filling gaps where needed. La Center United believes when community members from various backgrounds work together they can impact change.

The coalition formed as a grassroots effort by concerned citizens in 2013. In 2014, La Center United incorporated as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization, and in 2015 we were awarded a federal Drug-Free Communities Support Program grant for $125,000 a year for five years. With this funding, we are working to increase community collaboration and reduce substance use and mental health issues facing today’s youth.

Position Description:


Our coalition is looking for a Social Marketing Intern to help us reach a wider audience. The ideal applicant will possess strong knowledge of the digital media landscape, including various social media sites. The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to website updates, monitoring and posting on multiple social networks, engaging online forums, participating in online outreach and promotion, optimizing our website, and conducting keyword analysis. Those looking to gain valuable online media experience with an established organization are encouraged to apply. This internship is UNPAID, but we are hoping that this internship will help our intern build a strong portfolio to showcase their social media marketing abilities.


Responsibilities

  • Work with the executive board and coalition coordinator to create and implement campaigns

  • Develop content calendars on a weekly and monthly basis, monitor analytics with the social media team to identify viable ideas

  • Create/share engaging social media content. Provide support to our marketing team at live and online events

  • Have a finger on the pulse of what’s happening in social media as well as trending topics and culturally relevant moments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • In-depth working knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and experience with social media analytics.

  • Basic knowledge of Canva, Smore, Google Drive, hootsuite, and other programs

Job Type: Internship

Pay: $0.00 per hour

Schedule: Flexible 5-10 hours per week

Experience: Social Media Marketing: 1 year (Preferred)

Location: Remote, preference will be given to La Center Residents

This Job Is:

  • Open to applicants under 18 years old

  • Open to applicants who do not have a high school diploma/GED

  • A good fit for applicants with gaps in their resume, or who have been out of the workforce for the past 6 months or more

  • Open to applicants who do not have a college diploma

This internship is unpaid. College credit can be awarded if your institution supports it. The position includes optional training in new technologies, career development talks from staff, and assistance from a committed program manager.

The Loft Virtual Teen Center Volunteer

About The Loft:

The Loft is an initiative of La Center United which seeks to provide a safe space for youth to congregate. We foster a positive environment where teens can participate in fun activities while connecting with other youth and caring adults.


Position Description:

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, The Loft will be returning this fall but will be meeting virtually until further notice, Our coalition is looking for virtual teen center volunteers to co-host fun activities, crafts, and other virtual activities. We are seeking volunteers with a passion for youth development and youth success.

Schedule: The Loft Virtual Teen Center will be meeting Wednesdays while school is in session 3:30-4:30 pm. We are looking for a variety of volunteers who can commit once, or on an ongoing basis.

Volunteer Requirements:

  • Volunteers must pass a background check
