Weekly Moran Prairie Family and Community Newsletter
Friday March 17th:
Highlights for the week:
- Kindergarten worked on their Wocket stories!
- Fit for Bloomsday finally started after school this week with the nice weather!
- Our first two students, both from Mrs. Stone's class, traded in DIGS dollars to use Mr. C's chair for the day!
- Ms. Lael's class went on a field trip to Second Harvest!
- Mrs. Lemmon's class did some partner reading!
- 6th graders celebrated Pi(e) Day while measuring actual pies!
- Mrs. Walther's class celebrated St. Patrick's Day with logic puzzles and crafts!
- Mrs. Smith's class read Green Eggs and Ham and did some special writing!
- Five primary teachers engaged in a Literacy Lab PD, planned by reading interventionist Mrs. Wood, in which they observed Mrs. Beal during reader's workshop time. They learned about ways to improve their own reader's workshop and enhance literacy instruction for their students!
Ongoing Reminders
- Class picture day will be Wednesday March 29th. Forms will go home on Monday March 27th.
- Don't forget the STEAM Fair & Egg Drop on March 23rd! Students can sign up to create a project. There will be special judges, time for classes visit, and for students to share what they investigated - see you next week!
- Please remember to not block intersections and cross walks during pick-up and drop-off. We know that there are lots of cars and it can take a while to get to a spot where you can pick up your child. But in blocking crosswalks and intersections, even those just entering the parking lot, you are creating a large safety hazard for our young students who walk home as well as our students who walk to the bus and our crossing guards. And please be kind to our staff who are out there keeping everyone safe; if they ask you to move it's part of this!
- Our lost and found is full! Come check it out or send your student to look for missing items!
- If you are planning on moving or not being at Moran next year, please let the office know!
- Be on the lookout for information regarding 5/6 promotion this week!

Pesticide Spraying
The following letter will go home with students on Monday:
FROM: Kate Hellenthal
SUBJECT: PESTICIDE APPLICATION ALERT!
This is to inform you that our annual dormant oil spray will be applied to the trees and shrubs at our school on Wednesday March 22nd. This spray application consists of one gallon of mineral oil mixed in 80 gallons of water to cover and kill dormant insect eggs that overwinter in our area. Our school has taken steps to keep school children away from these areas for 24 hours following the application of spray. We would like to ask that you and your children refrain from brushing up against or playing around the trees and shrubs at our school. A variation from this schedule may occur as a result of inclement weather. Thank you!
Kinder Registration
