Empowered Learning 2.0
I hope that you all enjoyed your 3 day weekend and are ready to get back to work! From now on, our instructional platform will look a little bit different. (Picture Below) The focus will be on Project Based Learning lessons which are aptly renamed Empowered Learning 2.0. As we continue with our "New Normal" and on-line learning, not only will teachers continue to reach out to check-in with parents, we will now begin holding lessons through Google Hangout and eventually through Zoom. Your child(ren)'s homeroom teacher will reach out to you this week with more information. In the mean time, you can access and review your child's grade level Project Based Learning lessons (PBL) by clicking the Empowered Learning link on the SISD website.
There are a few logistics that I would like to make you aware of:
1. There will be 60 to 80 minute, AM and PM lessons offered for students (according to grade level), beginning on Thursday, April 16th.
2. Teachers will reach out to parents to try to set up consistent times for instruction and support.
3. There will be weekly assignments that should be uploaded into Schoology. (Video directions are below. Click on the buttons: Navigating Schoology, Submitting An Assignment In Schoology, Submitting A Picture of An Assignment).
4. Instructional packets will still be available for pick up at our meal locations (AM only)

Spring ISD to Offer Multiple Free Meal Distribution on Mondays and Wednesdays
Starting Monday, April 13, Spring ISD will implement changes to its free meal distribution program to better serve families and staff during the extended COVID-19 closure.
The district will now be handing out packets of multiple-day meals on Mondays and Wednesdays only. On Monday, families will pick up meals for Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesdays, they will receive meals for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
“We’re making this change to minimize the number of family trips to schools and ensure we do our part to “Stay Home, Stay Safe” as ordered by state and local officials,” said Chief Operations Officer Mark Miranda. “Fewer trips will be more convenient for our families.”
Because larger kitchens and food storage are needed to accommodate this change, the following sites will be offering meal pick-up:
- Bailey
- Booker
- Clark Primary
- Claughton
- McNabb
- Reynolds
- Westfield
Parents will be able to pick up on Mondays and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at all sites. Evening pick up will be available at Bailey, Claughton and Westfield from 4 to 6 p.m.
In another change, families will have the option of just popping their trunks so the meals can be placed inside. District officials remind families that meals are available to all children 18 years and younger but they must be present in the vehicle to receive them.
Thanks,
Office of Communications
