Types of Migration
Most of this is immigration to U.S. and international migration, although this includes chain migration too. This includes immigration and emigration because the people from and Latin America and Asia emigrate from their countries and immigrate to the U.S. This is also international migration because people are migrating to a new country. Finally, this includes chain migration because many of the family members move to the U.S. because some relative already lives there so they also have a better chance to immigrate in too unless you are immigrating illegally like most of latin america. In the Rubenstein text, it explains that in the 1970's many asians first immigrated to the U.S. as a wave, then the huge wave of chain migration started because of the better chances of getting a visa to a country in what they believed as a country of economic opportunity. Also, 60% of latin americans that are immigrating illegally to the U.S. are Mexicans and most go to Arizona thinking that it's the easiest way to go through.
Push and Pull Factors
The main push factors in Latin America is the fact that gang members dominate the areas making it hard socially and hard economically because of the members threatening their income. The main push factor in Asia is poor conditions and the fact that overpopulation makes up way too much competition. The main pull factors is economic opportunity, a chance to earn money and socially, to meet other family members already living there.
Intervening Obstacles
The main intervening obstacle for Latin Americans is the fact that the gang members and even the police are very harsh towards them, often threatening their lives. It's a harsh journey because of little money, food, and no shelter. That's before they go to the U.S.A. and face border patrol problems because if they get caught they get deported back to experience more torture. For Asians, the main obstacle is that it is hard to get a visa or green card. But since many fall under skilled workers or family related, it's not as much of a problem for them.
Consequences
Socially this isn't much of a problem because most are focused on earning money and most appreciate ethnic diversity. Econimically, the asians don't have a problem because of them being skilled workers but latin americans have a hard time earning money because of low paying jobs.Culturally, most don't mind ethnic diversity as most believe that racism is bad.Environmentally, it doesn't affect them much because they are focused on eating money. Politically, it is harder because it's hard to represent many types of people at once.
Attitude towards them
Most don't really mind Asians because of their skill but many don't like latin americans because they came here illegally while others work hard to come in legally. That is often why they get such low paying jobs and the latin americans usually accept them because that are often desperate.
