Field Flash
April 8, 2022
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
I hope you've had a nice week. As you've noticed, our building demolition has begun. One important note about this construction area - if your child is playing on the blacktop after school and their ball goes over the fencing, no one should enter the construction area to retrieve it. If someone is available to toss it over, they will. Otherwise, we can retrieve it safely the next day. This fenced area is an active construction site, and it's important that we remain outside of it at all times. Thank you for your help with this after school hours!
A few reminders:
- Weather: Please be sure your child continues to dress for the weather each day. We instruct students to wear the outdoor gear that their grown-up has sent them to school with that day. Please be sure your child is dressed for outdoor recess. As always, label items, please!
- Kiss and Go reminders: Please remember that the Kiss and Go areas are intended for quick drop offs. Adults should remain in the car and students should exit quickly. Please also remember that our parking lot is not available for drop off.
- Elmore Dismissal: Please note that residents on Elmore have requested the Park Ridge Police during our dismissal due to the increase in illegal parking/blocked driveways. Please, please be sure that you are obeying all traffic rules, refrain from parking in or blocking driveways, and do not have your child cross Elmore in the middle of the street. This is especially important on inclement weather days.
- New Student Registration is open! Please be sure to register your incoming kindergartener as soon as you can.
Finally, I'd like to share a resource with you all - it's called Parents Make the Difference. It's a monthly newsletter geared towards elementary school parents. It includes many helpful tips and suggestions. I hope you find it as useful.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Dr. Courtney Goodman
Principal
D64 Healthy Living Month
April is Healthy Living Month! Each week has a different focus. The following information is shared with our students each morning during our announcements. You can revisit it at home too!
Week 1: Health and Nutrition Week 1 (April 4-8)
Students are challenged to eat within the USDA recommendations of the fruit and veggie group (choosemyplate.gov): 1 - 2 cups of fruit AND 1.5 - 3 cups of vegetables each day!
Week 2: Neet to Use Your Feet Week 2 (April 11-15)
This week's focus is physical activity. Students are challenged to use their feet (walking, playing sports, jogging, etc.) every day before, during, and after school!
Week 3: Go Green Week 3 (April 18-22)
This week's focus is caring for the Earth so students are prepared for Earth Day on Friday, April 22. Students are challenged to do something good for the Earth this week (conserved energy, reused, reduced, recycled material, etc.).
Week 4: Screen Free Week 4 (April 25-29)
This week's focus is how we spend our free time. Students are challenged to spend their free time this week in activities that do not require using a device with a screen (reading a book, taking a walk, playing a board game, playing a sport, etc.).
Chicago Bears Mini Clinic Coming to Field for the first time!
We are excited to share that our students in grades 3-5 will participate in the Mini Monsters Clinic sponsored by the Chicago Bears and Advocate Health Care. This program connects to our Healthy Living Month, as well as our P.E. learning standards. Special thank you to Mrs. Kerry Santefort, one of our P.E. teachers, for coordinating this special event.
A bit more about the program...The Mini Monsters Clinic brought to you by Advocate Health Care is a free youth program that stresses the importance of healthy eating, physical activity and proper hydration through fun, non-contact football drills. This free 90-minute clinic is available on select weekdays from May through October and is open to requests from youth organizations, schools and NFL Flag football programs. Each clinic is designed for children between the ages of 8-13. The clinic includes a visit from a former Bears player and giveaways for the participants.
