STILLSON SPIRIT
December 2018 Newsletter
The month of December usually rushes by and the New Year is here before you know it. It brings excitement in the air! Our children bring us a special joy during this season, as we share meals with relatives and friends, share gifts with our loved ones and share time together as a family. It is so fun to experience this time of year with our children. We can feel their joy and wonder and it makes us remember to: cherish people, not things; respect our children’s individual differences and appreciate their uniqueness; and take the time to do what we value most in our lives.
Even as the teachers incorporate special, holiday-related activities into their lesson plans, we continue to focus on all our students’ academic areas. Please encourage your child to complete all lessons, assignments, and tests to the best of his/her ability. We want everyone off to a great second trimester!! And remember to read, read, read!!! Thank you for your interest in and support of your child’s education. Without you, our students could not be successful. I am particularly thankful for each teacher and dedicated staff member at Stillson. Every day they choose to be here with integrity, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
I would like to wish each and every one of you a peaceful, safe and healthy season. Enjoy your winter break and we will see you all next year. Remarkable things will continue to happen when we work together.
Yours in Student Success,
Mrs. Carol Wilczek

Weather Reminders
Please be sure your child leaves in the morning dressed for the weather conditions. Dressing in layers is always a good idea. Boots, gloves, hats and snow pants should become part of their standard attire. Students will be going outside during recess except when the actual temperature or wind chill is –6 or colder. They will be allowed to play in the snow if dressed properly. It is also important to label your child’s clothing and boots. Recess is an important time for social interaction. Exercise is a critical component for healthy growth and academic success.
All students will be expected to go outside for recess.

Cartridges for Cash
We are collecting empty inkjet and toner cartridges to turn in for cash! We have partnered with a company that will pay us for our empty cartridges and issue a check for their value on a monthly basis.
Most empty inkjet cartridges are worth $1 to $2.50 each, and some laser cartridges are worth up to $8.00! Our “paycheck” could add up fast, so please help by bringing all the cartridges you use!
Here’s how you can help:
· Don’t put empty cartridges in the trash!
· Please bring all empty cartridges to the LMC.
· Bring empty cartridges from home and add to the collection (and our check!)
They will also take our recycled and refurbished cartridges to dispose in a safe and
environmentally friendly way.

Reminder
· First bell is 7:45 AM, 2nd bell is 7:48. If a student comes to school after 7:48 he/she will be counted as tardy.
· Parents are expected to call the office to report any absence by 8:30 AM, or a phone call from the automated phone system will be sent questioning the absence.
· If a child needs to ride a different bus after school, the parent must complete a bus deviation form to be given to the office or bus company.
· We appreciate your support in helping us eliminate interruptions in your child(ren)’s learning experience by not making last minute phone calls regarding changes in end of day transportation.
If your child will not be at school, please call the school office, 715-726-2412, regarding your child’s absence. We appreciate you letting the classroom teacher know your child will be out (via email or note), but also let the office know, as many times classroom teachers will not have time to check their emails prior to school starting.
