Let's celebrate the week gone, and be ready for what's next

In Partnership with You

The following information was included in a phone call that went out to families at 5:30 PM on 10/16. This weekly wrap-up (e-mail, phone call & video) is a key way to receive important information about relevant announcements and upcoming events. Another source of timely information is our web-page that is updated daily, especially the calendar, upcoming events and new "Remote Learning" heading. (www.thompsonschools.org/garfield)

So what is the scoop on Halloween at Garfield this year?

Our Garfield leadership team met this last week to discuss a few items pertaining to Halloween at Garfield this year.

I am sad to announce that for the first year in many we will need to think outside the box and differently about how our Garfield staff and students celebrate Halloween. Our parade has been a tradition for us, but this year, out of precaution due to the size of our building, and the crowd this wonderful event draws, we have decided on a few other fun events and activities for students in lieu of the parade.

First, the Arts Integration "My Perfect Halloween Costume" project:

  • Students will use a near life-size little-person cutout to design their own self-portrait of them in their ideal, perfect Halloween costume! These will line our halls, our classroom will take tours to see, and we will post a virtual video tour as well.

Second, FANTASTIC face masks

  • Our generous PTA has supplied with us enough plain white cotton face masks for students to design the perfect Halloween smile. Maybe the face of a jack-o-lantern, or perhaps imagine if they had Animal Teeth! (based off the book What If You Had Animal Teeth by Sandra Markle) you can see the read aloud by clicking on this link.
  • Kids will then get to wear these masks all day on Friday 10/30, then bring them home.

So, while we won't be able to wear our amazing costumes to school, we know that our students will find these activities amidst their friends and fellow grizzlies fun! we can't wait!
