One School, One Book Begins Tomorrow!
We will kick-off our One School, One Book program tomorrow morning in the cafeteria. I can't tell you the name of the book yet, but the picture gives you a clue about the setting of the story. Parents, students, and teachers are asked to read one chapter of the book each night. We will take part in the Trivia Challenge each day and I like to give pop quizzes for a grade, so make sure your child is keeping up with their reading. Students can go onto Mrs. Bridges web page to hear different teachers reading from the book each night if they wish.
We are also completing a project-based learning activity during the next few weeks to coincide with our plant and animal unit. I will tell you more about that below:)
Rainforest Plants and Animals Project Based Learning Activity
In order to prepare for our annual Sugar Creek STEAM night (March 29th from 6-8 pm.), our fourth graders have each chosen a rainforest plant or animal to research. We will conduct research on Wednesday and Thursday of this week and complete a short report. On Friday students will be tasked with building a model of their plant or animal with any materials they wish. Their models should be made to scale (life sized), colorful, creative, and sensory (meaning they should have different textures). We will display our projects down the fourth grade hallway for all visitors to see on STEAM Night. Students can feel free to work on their project at home if they wish.
Speaking of Projects...
We need your help parents! If you have any old craft items laying around the house that are driving you crazy and you just don't know what to do with them...send them to school. We could use pipe cleaners, glue gun sticks (big or small) fabric, styrofoam balls, wire, tissue paper, cotton balls, popsicle sticks, glitter, toilet paper tubes, paper towel tubes, google eyes, cardboard boxes, ect. Thank you in advance for all of your help!
Thank You!!!
I apologize for not saying this sooner, but THANK YOU for all of the lovely gifts, cards, and flowers you gave me during Teacher Appreciation Week! I was so spoiled by my wonderful kids and parents. I am incredibly fortunate this year to have such an amazing class and amazing parents:) I appreciate all of you!
No Spelling Words Until After Spring Break
I am taking a few weeks off of spelling word lists to focus on our TDA Writing unit. Text Dependent Analysis is a very in-depth response - to - reading activity. Students need more time each day to compose their essays, so I am going to wave spelling for a while. Their writing has improved so much this year! I am so proud of the writers they have become:)
