Walkout Honors Memory of Parkland Victims
Ski Club Hits the Slopes
Over 40 students signed up for the first ever Weehawken Ski Club. As part of the experience, and with help from a grant procured by the WHS Parent Teacher Organization, students enjoyed three trips to Mount Vernon. The grant covered the costs of equipment and fees and also paid for the students’ breakfast and lunch.
Bot Battles!
The WHS Robotics team faced off against various opponenets during three back to back matches in January and February. Each new match introduced challenges the team had to overcome, forcing them to rebuild or repair their designs and getting mechanisms to work properly. With 11 wins, five losses and one tie, the team is proud of its success this year.
Peer Leadership Visits Paramus Veterans Home
Peer Leaders and co-advisor Lisa Rovito traveled to Paramus to visit veterans at the Paramus Veterans Home. There the students spent time with the residents, thanked the veterans who risked their lives for our country and learned about their personal stories and experiences.
Academic Team Has Impressive Season
The Academic Team entered competition this year ready to take on all comers. The team provides students with a way to apply facts and random knowledge they know in a Jeopardy-style tournament which pits them against other schools. Headed by advisors Jeff Cosgrave and Jenna Welsh, the team met twice a week, once for practice and once for competition. Students performed admirably in all of their competitions, but both A and B teams lost in the elimination round of the regional tournament.

Swim Team Opens Inaugural Season
Weehawken High's first ever girls' swim team began this winter. Under the guidance of Coach Ross, 32 students learned the art of swimming freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. Each morning at 5:45, the girls took a bus to a pool in West new York, where they practiced swimming laps and perfected their swimming strokes.
Cheer Squad Sponsors Diaper Drive
Cheerleading advisor Maria Mattiace and her cheerleading squad took a trip to Women Rising on Friday, February 23 to visit women who have been affected by domestic violence. There the girls shared stories, asked questions and even shed a few tears during their discussions with residents. The group also sponsored a diaper drive, which was extended to all the schools in Weehawken, to help provide needed products to the women living at the shelter.
