A Greeting from our new Principal, Ms. Amy Russ
Hello, Tiger Families! I have heard many, many great things about you and cannot wait to have an opportunity to become acquainted with you and to meet you in person. It is an honor to serve you as your new Principal at West Cypress Hills Elementary.
Please rest assured that Mrs. Beninga and I are working together to ensure a smooth transition as I assume responsibility for West Cypress Hills Elementary. She's lovely, and I know that you will miss her now that she's moving to Bee Cave Middle School. However, I am certain that this upcoming school year will be the best with the help of our fabulous WCHE PTO, the excellent WCHE faculty, and the support of our wonderful community partners.
I have over twenty years of experience in Education and, before moving to the Lake Travis Independent School District, I had the privilege of holding district- and campus-level leadership roles in the Canyon, Austin, and Hays school districts. I am coming to you from my last leadership position where I was Assistant Principal at the Tobias Elementary School in the Hays School District. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies-Mathematics and a Master of Education in Administration/Educational Leadership from West Texas A & M University.
A bit about me personally...I am a proud mother of two amazing daughters, Madison has a master's in architecture and is here locally in Austin working as a UX designer for a start-up tech company. Chelsey and her husband Derek live in Connecticut, she is an OBGYN physician. In my spare time, I love hanging out laughing with my family on Lake Austin, on the Texas Coast, or planning my next trip up to the tiny coastline of Connecticut.
I am very excited about meeting all of you and look forward to welcoming you back to school soon.
With warmest regards,
Amy Russ, Principal
On your way to Kindergarten 2022-2023?
District advises of modification in bus service for the 2022-23 school year due to driver shortage.
June 30, 2022
As you may already know, our district has been dealing with a significant shortage of bus drivers for quite some time. After implementing aggressive recruitment efforts and providing targeted increases in compensation, the shortage continues. However, our administration has been working on a variety of scenarios that will allow us to offer transportation services for the 2022-2023 school year. Upon evaluating all possible options, we believe the best decision is to implement a scheduled rotation of bus service.
Students who successfully enroll for services will be assigned a bus route through SMART tag. Transportation will be scheduled on a three-week rotation—two weeks with service followed by one week with no service. Rotation schedules will involve all bus routes excluding special services. While this may not be a popular decision, we believe it is the most equitable option in lieu of advising parents of last-minute cancellation of services. As we employ additional drivers, we will adjust the schedule accordingly.
Parents of students who are eligible for transportation will be able to register for services through Skyward Family Access beginning Monday, July 18, 2022. Parents will be able to obtain their child’s bus route and bus stop information via the SMART tag portal in August. In an effort to provide our families ample time to make alternate arrangements for transportation, rotation schedules will be posted on the LTISD Transportation Department webpage in August as well. Please be aware that most routes and route numbers will differ from the 2021-2022 school year. More information will be provided in the coming weeks.
We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and support as we continue to do everything possible to safely and efficiently meet the expected increase in student ridership while addressing our driver shortage. If you or someone you know is interested in driving a bus for LTISD, we encourage you to contact our Transportation Department at 512-533-6070, or at davisr@ltisdschools.org. Our starting pay is $21.11 per hour, and no experience is needed. We provide all training and full benefits, and our drivers get holidays and summers off.
I hope you and your family have a safe and relaxing holiday.
Sincerely,
Brad Bailey
Assistant Superintendent for Operations
