Lockport City School District
COVID-19 Update
May 17, 2021
Since the CDC issued updated school guidance in early April, the district continues to review the number of cases over the last seven days per 100,000 in Niagara County.
As of May 15, 2021, the New York State number of cases over the last seven days per 100,000 for Niagara County is 94.6. Since this number is below 100 and the trend line shows a decline in cases, the Lockport City School District will be expanding to a four day in-person instructional model with three feet of physical distancing at Lockport High School, Lockport High School West, North Park Junior High School, and Emmet Belknap Intermediate School effective Monday, May 24, 2021. Remote Wednesdays will remain in the schedule for the remainder of the school year. The building principals in the four buildings will be providing additional information to faculty, staff, parents, and students about the four-day and full remote instructional models.
As restrictions in New York State continue to be lifted, there seems to be a sense that we are climbing out of the pandemic and moving toward the next normal. The New York State Education Department has indicated that school guidance for fall is forthcoming. We should use the end of the 2020-2021 school year experience to help us better plan for the 2021-2022 school year.
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. Your efforts have been extraordinary. This has been a very complex, often confusing, and downright crazy school year to say the least. Hang in there, everybody. Stay safe and be well.
