BioScience Association of Maine Summer Camp Scholarship Opportunity

As a follow up to ME Bioscience Day 2022, in which our 6th graders took part this past November, the BioScience Association of ME will be funding 4 scholarships in the form of 1-week-long summer science camps at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics in Limestone, ME. Eligible students must be aged 11-14 and be a current student of Scarborough Middle School (ALL SMS students between 11-14 are welcome to apply, whether you personally participated in Bioscience Day this year or not!).

The camps run between June 25 and July 22. Any week can be chosen, depending on age and gender restrictions, and availability. The scholarships cover room, board and transportation. Students should apply directly with BioME though the link below no later than February 28, 2023 to be considered. Winners will be announced the week of March 6.

We have had several SMS students win this scholarship in past years, and all have reported that they had a wonderful time and learned a lot! Please contact Mrs. Chester (mchester@scarboroughschools.org) for more information. Here is the APPLICATION!

Big picture

Student Absence Reporting

Families should report their middle school student's absence from school by calling the SMS main office at 207-730-4800 or by email at msoffice@scarboroughschools.org. A reason for the absence must be stated, otherwise SMS office staff will reach out to determine the reason for the absence.

Excusable reasons for an absence:

  • illness
  • appointment
  • religious holiday
  • family emergency
  • planned absence

For Planned Absences (a day out of school which is not illness or medical appointment related), families should fill out the Scarborough Middle School Planned Absence form, which is found here.

For questions about attendance, please contact the Scarborough Middle School main office at 207-730-4800 or email us at msoffice@scarboroughschools.org
