Community Recognition Nominations
The Sedro-Woolley School District is seeking nominations for the Annual District Recognition program to honor those who have so graciously dedicated themselves to the Sedro-Woolley School District and the Sedro-Woolley Community. Nominees can be individuals outside or within the school district that have rendered outstanding service to the community or demonstrated loyal support and outstanding accomplishments in areas such as community service, academics, performing arts, or athletics. These exemplary efforts are recognized as going beyond the typical measures of accomplishment, and will be publicly honored at the District''s annual ceremony.
Selection Process: Each year nominations are accepted from the community and staff of those who have made an impact in the lives of students and the community. A committee of past Sedro-Woolley School District Community Recognition Program members will review the ongoing nominations, and select next yearβs inductees. The committee will review for 2023 on Dec. 15.

Families with Low or No Income Can File for the $3,000 Child Tax Credit
This year, more families and individuals with low or no incomes across Washington could get thousands of dollars in federal payments due to policy changes - even if they have never filed taxes before. To get this money, eligible families can file a simplified tax return in 15 minutes or less (if they have not already filed taxes this year).
It is estimated that at least 46,000 children in Washington could miss out on at least $3,000 each with the Child Tax Credit. More information can be found at getctc.org.
Families: We need your help!
Do you have concerns about your childβs development?
The Good Beginnings Preschool serves children in the Sedro-Woolley School District from birth to age 5 who have been identified as children who would benefit from a developmental early childhood program.

You do not need to be a permanent resident of the Sedro-Woolley School District to request a screening for your child.
Foundations K accepting applications
Attention Sedro-Woolley School District families! If you have a child who will be attending kindergarten NEXT year (September 2023), your child may qualify for our transitional kindergarten program, Foundations K. This program runs the second semester of this school year (January 30-June 15, 2023). For more information please visit https://www.swsd.k12.wa.us/Domain/824. FREE TUTORS FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS!
The district will continue to offer FREE tutoring services for students in grades 7-12.
Paper is a secure, online tutoring service that provides students with unlimited, 24/7 academic support. Whether theyβre stuck on homework, studying for a test, or need someone to read and make suggestions to their essays, there will always be experts available online to assist students in more than 200 subjects and in FOUR languages.
Paper tutors have been specially trained to conduct expert, academic support in a secure, chat-based platform. With a commitment to helping students learn, theyβll never give students answers, but rather interact with them in an encouraging tone to lead them forward.
This is a free service that the district is providing (paid for with ESSER funds), so students are encouraged to use it as much as they need, whenever they need. Our teachers also have accounts and will be able to review all student activity to see what theyβre working on and provide more targeted instruction as needed.
If youβd like to learn more about Paper you can sign up for a Paper hosted Parent Info Session, available in both English and Spanish. Or if youβd like to speak to a member of the Paper team directly, you can reach them at parents@paper.co.
To see Paper and the help it offers firsthand, we encourage you to login with your students. To get started, simply visit PAPERβs student login page, type your schoolβs name, and login via Google using your school credentials
Weβre thrilled to offer our students the unlimited, 24/7 support that Paper provides and we canβt wait to see what weβre able to accomplish together.
These Tutorial Videos are also helpful for students and families!

COVID-19 guidance for K-12 schools & child care
The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) has released its updated COVID-19 guidance for K-12 schools and child care. The guidance takes lessons learned from the first two and a half years of the pandemic, and outlines both required and recommended measures for the 2022-23 school year to help reduce COVID-19 transmission in school and child care settings. Schools, child care providers, and families can expect limited changes focused on clarifying and simplifying the guidance.
Clarified requirements and recommendations in this school yearβs guidance include:
- Students, children, and staff who test positive for COVID-19 are required to stay at home and isolate for 5 days.
- Students, children, and staff returning from 5 days of isolation should wear a well-fitted mask from days 6 to 10. Those returning are encouraged to test before doing so.
- Schools and child care providers are no longer required to directly notify high risk individuals of exposure but must continue to have a process in place to inform students, staff, and families of cases and outbreaks.
- Schools and child care providers continue to be required to report outbreaks (3 or more cases within a specified core group) to local health jurisdictions (LHJ) and to have a system in place to respond.
Sedro-Woolley School District Health Services team will continue to offer access to timely diagnostic testing for SWSD students with symptoms of COVID-19. The testing will be free of charge and will only be offered to ONLY students and staff showing symptoms.
Schedule an appointment and complete pre-test paperwork
Testing will be available from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday on regular school days. All appointments will need to be scheduled, as drop-ins cannot be accommodated at this time.
All employees, volunteers and indoor contractors in educational settings are required to be fully vaccinated* or have a medical or religious exemption per Governorβs proclamation 21-14.3. Visitors are not required to be vaccinated. Visitors would be those picking up students from the office, or signing them in, or attending an extracurricular activity.
*Fully Vaccinated: An individual is fully vaccinated when they have received both doses in a two-dose COVID-19 vaccine primary series or one dose of a single-dose COVID-19 primary series approved or authorized for use in the United States. Staying up to date with all recommended vaccinations and boosters is the best option to protect from severe disease and hospitalization.
Symptom Decision Tree and Contact Tracing Checklist for K-12 Schools
While the guidance is specific to COVID-19 prevention, it can also help to reduce transmission of other common respiratory viruses such as influenza.
