Wilson Creek News
Manhattan School District 114
October 2020
It has been an honor to witness the way our students and teachers have established relationships and engaged in instruction through remote learning. While none of this is ideal, we are so grateful for your help in making the very best of the situation for your child. We are working hard to prepare for the return of most of our learners on October 12th. The month of October is usually filled with field trips, assemblies, and events. This month will look and feel very different. However, as we transition, I have no doubt that our students will rise to the occasion and find new excitement in the next stage of our school year.
As we prepare to move into in-person learning or the new structure of remote learning, please consider affording your child some independence in their learning and work. While for many, having extra support has been more hands on deck prompting and correcting students. When they get to school they will not necessarily have that level of support that you or a caretaker provides during recording, instruction, and completing activities. Having your child submit Seesaw work "as is" also helps his or her teacher develop a more accurate sense of your child's present levels and skills. This will be an adjustment for all of us!

Thank you for your patience as we finalize all of these plans.
Your child's teacher, either in-person or remote, will share the new schedule for your child's learning as the transition gets closer. Because our in-person learners will also have work to do remotely each day, there are many components of the day that will be shared among all learners and the same Google sites and templates will be used for accessing remote learning, just at different times in the day. We understand that childcare plans will affect to what degree in-person students can participate in afternoon remote learning. Please be sure your child's teacher is aware of what to expect regarding your child's daily plans when not at school.
Please note, extended day lessons will discontinue after October 8th.
**PLEASE NOTE: KINDERGARTEN STUDENTS CANNOT RETURN TO IN-PERSON LEARNING WITHOUT A PHYSICAL OR DOCUMENTED APPOINTMENT FOR A PHYSICAL**
Hello WC Families! We are so looking forward to having our students return to the building in October! Here are some important items to keep in mind when planning for a return to the building:
If your child develops COVID like symptoms while at school, it is imperative that he/she be picked up in a timely manner in order to limit exposure to other students and staff. It is very important that you keep your contact information updated in powerschool. Your emergency contact needs to be an individual who can pick up your child within our 30 minute guideline.
If a student is sent home with COVID like symptoms, all siblings in the district will also be sent home.
With regard to absence calls, students will be asked to remain home for 48 hours to ensure that the symptoms do not develop into COVID-19. The student also needs to be fever free without the use of medications for the last 24 hours of that time frame.
DOCUMENTATION! It is extremely important that kindergarten health physicals and vision exams be turned into the office by the first week of October. The dental exam for kindergarten and second grade is due in the spring. Please call my office if you have any questions or concerns. Without these items, your child will be excluded from school!
Encourage hand washing! This really is one of the best ways to prevent sickness!
