Mrs. Pierce's Principal Message

Dear Trojans,

It is hard to believe it is mid-February! We celebrate Saint Valentine this week as well as the beginning of Lent. Both remind us about the importance of love. God loves us so much that He sent His son, Jesus, to model sacrificial love for us. Let us take a moment to thank God for all those in our lives who love us and who we love. May we focus on this love during Lent, which begins this Wednesday.

Mrs. Pierce

Congratulations to our Second Graders who made their First Reconciliation this weekend!

Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday, Shrove Tuesday

Mardi Gras started as a French Catholic Celebration before the Lenten season. Since 1711 in the United States, the celebration begins at the feast of the 3 kings called the 12th Night, where the King of Kings birth is celebrated with the three kings visiting Jesus, and continues until the night before Ash Wednesday. Shrove means to obtain absolution for one’s sins by way of confession and doing penance. It is in the Christian custom to be “shriven” before the start of Lent. It is the last indulgence before the fasting during Lent. The colors of the day are Purple to represent Justice, Green represents Faith. and Gold represents Power.

Students may wear a green, gold, or purple shirt and 3 strands of beads with their normal uniform skirts or pants, socks, and shoes.

Students will have King Cake @1:15, parade around the campus @ 2:00, and begin prayers for Lent in a prayer service to end the day.

Lent: A Season of Prayer, Fasting, and Alms Giving

Lent is a special time for us all to reflect on our relationship with Christ and others. Like Jesus who spent 40 days in the desert praying and fasting, we prepare ourselves to be better people by doing the same. Giving up something for Lent fosters self-discipline and tempers our desires. Let us think about the possibility of doing something positive to boost our spirituality. We are called to spend time in prayer, fasting, and give alms.

PRAYER- Look for ways that will increase your knowledge of our faith and our relationship with Christ.

  • Spend 15 minutes daily to pray with your family or self.

  • It could be praying a rosary

  • Reading scripture with reflection

  • Going to adoration

  • Attending Stations of the Cross on Fridays.

FASTING- Many give up a certain food (meat on Fridays), but it is more than this. What is it in our lives that is keeping us from a closer relationship with Jesus? Is it social media, checking my phone all the time, watching television, playing video games, or a particular bad habit? How can we offer self-sacrifice to become better?

ALMS GIVING- Looking for a way to reach out to our neighbors by serving others. This goes beyond the pennies in a Rice Bowl.

  • Maybe we volunteer in the community or parish or doing something for our friends.

  • Maybe we refrain from eating out one less time, cook at home, and give the money saved to help others.

  • Maybe we reach out to others with words of gratitude and encouragement by writing and mailing a note to each friend and coworkers appreciating them.

Whatever it is, we should all try to do something to become closer to Christ this Lent.

Carline Safety with Davis Drive Construction

Please remember to be patient and extra careful as construction has begun on Davis Drive. Allow yourself an extra few minutes in case of delays both in the morning and the afternoon. Our students' safety is our primary concern. Thank you for your patience!

New Library Manager

Please welcome our new library manager, Sylvia Curiel, to our SMG campus.
