Robison Elementary Rocket Register
September 2019
Message from Mrs. Gerletti
From the last Rocket Register:
This is always the most exciting time of the year! I know our students are enthusiastic about returning to school to see their friends and to meet their new teachers. While they might not be excited about their routine of waking up earlier, I hope that they know our staff is eagerly waiting for them to return.
I would like to make you aware that I will not be at Robison on the first day of school. I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer which thankfully was caught at an early stage. I will have treatments following surgery. My plan is to be back as soon as I can be! I will definitely keep you updated on my return! While I am away from school, our students and staff will be in great hands with Mrs. Nespeca and Mrs. McCollister, our assistant principals. They are ready and willing to assist you. Mrs. Suzanne Thompson, a retired CFISD principal and current coach for new principals will be our principal substitute. Mrs. Thompson is familiar with our campus, as she has served as a substitute at Robison in both the roles of principal and assistant principal in the past. As much as I dislike missing the beginning of my 32nd year of education, I know our Rockets are in great hands. I look forward to seeing everyone when I return!

To the Parents of our Fourth and Fifth Graders,
Your fourth or fifth grader is invited to be a member of the Rockin’ Robison Choir. We will meet every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning from 7:45-8:20 a.m. in the music room. Our first rehearsal will begin Monday, Sept.9th. Your child needs to pick up a permission slip, fill it out and bring it back to me before our first rehearsal. I look forward to sharing the joy of singing with your child.

Summer Reading Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge is due September 13th. Please turn in your blue forms to Ms. Wolfe or your teacher and they will place them in my box. I look forward to seeing many students receive their medals at the end of September.
Birthday Book Club
Lending-to-Learn (Kajeet)
Students have been given the opportunity to borrow a district-provided Chromebook and/or a Kajeet hotspot (20 available daily). The Kajeet hotspot will allow your student to connect to the Internet from either the district-provided Chromebook or a personally owned device. It’s a filtered Internet service and will monitor and filter your student’s access. Chromebooks and Kajeet hotspots will be checked out from the library each afternoon to students as needed to complete assignments or work on projects. Students return the devices the next morning upon arrival at school. Please have your student pick up a permission slip from Ms. Wolfe : )
Pumpkin Extravaganza
It’s time to get creative! Decorate a pumpkin as your favorite book character. Pumpkins will be on display in the library with ribbon prizes announced during Book Fair Family Night on October 15th. RESERVE your display area by turning in form sent in Friday Folder (Sept.20th) by Friday, Oct 4th. Create your BOOK CHARACTER PUMPKIN using any appropriate materials. (Paint, fabric, crafty supplies) - NO CARVING OR HOLES PLEASE! Holes make the pumpkin leak! – ONE pumpkin entry per family. You may use a REAL pumpkin or a CRAFT pumpkin. Pumpkins on display from October 8th (Pumpkin drop off date) to October 15th (pumpkin pick up date). Pumpkins NOT picked up after October 18th will be donated to teachers classrooms or discarded. Please pick up your beautiful character pumpkins! Thank you for participating : )

Book Fair
Scholastic Book Fair is coming really soon! October 11th – Oct 18th. Join us for Family Night on Tuesday, October 15th from 4-7pm! Students will have the opportunity to purchase books, posters, bookmarks for themselves and/or for their classroom library. Only cash and credit cards are accepted. Hours 8:00 to 4:00 daily. On Friday, Oct. 18th, the book fair will close at 2 pm. Visit scholastic.com/bookfairs/family and scroll to the parent message video. Thank you for your support!
Book Character Parade
Students may participate in dressing up as a favorite book character. Book Characters must be age-appropriate, no masks or weapons allowed. We truly want our students to consider characters in their favorite book rather than focusing on a costume. This year the parade will be in the Spring, March 6th at 9:00 AM and we will bring our parade outdoors for parents to watch. More details coming later.

Car Rider Information
A big thanks for everyone’s patience and understanding while we get our car rider line operating at the beginning of the school year. Please read the reminders below to ensure that our car rider line runs smoothly and safely.
Adults must remain in their cars at all times. Our staff members will assist students that need help opening car doors, etc.
If your student is in a car seat or booster, please place the seat on the passenger side of the car so that your student does not have to walk around the car.
It is important that parents enter the car rider line form Spring Cypress and Woods Spillane Dr. (near the Cy-Woods baseball field). No left turns are allowed from Robison Woods drive near the bus loading area.
U-turning from Robison Woods drive is not allowed if there is a line of cars waiting. Please turn left at the stop sign and proceed to the end of the line.
The car rider door will close at 8:45 a.m. If your student arrives after 8:45, you must park in the front parking lot and sign your student in at the front office.
Thank you for your cooperation in following these policies and procedures!
