TIME FOR THE UCSD SURVEY!
It’s that time of year again for the Annual UCSD Surveys. The surveys are voluntary; however, should you prefer not to participate, please click on the link and respond “No” under participation. This will allow for UCSD to know how many people have participated in and/or completed the survey.
The information collected is very helpful as an assessment of climate and culture, so if you can participate, it is much appreciated!

City of Vista Performing Arts Committee- Need a representative! Great opportunity! We have been selected to forward a name of an RMS staff member who is interested in serving as the district representative on the City of Vista Performing Arts Committee. This is a great way to participate in what's happening in Vista regarding the arts. I have included below a bit of information about the Public Arts Commission. If you are interested in serving on this committee, please let me know as soon as possible as the turn around time is very short!
- Public Arts Commission: The purpose of the Public Arts Commission is to reflect the diverse nature of the City's population, history, and growth through the public display of art; cultivate audiences for public art; consider ways in which public art can play a role in achieving other community building goals and objectives; foster sponsorship and stewardship of public art; recognition of the economic benefits gained through aesthetic enhancement of the City's public spaces; and expand the opportunities for residents to experience public art. The powers and duties are set forth in Chapter 2.46 of the Vista Municipal Code. Click here to learn more about Public Art in Vista.
- There are seven members appointed by the Mayor with the confirmation of the City Council, including: a) one member at-large, who is a resident of Vista; b) two artists, who are residents of Vista; and c) one member from each of the following organizations: Vista Unified School District, Vista Village Business Association, Alta Vista Gardens, and Friends of the Rancho Buena Vista Adobe; as well as two non-voting youth representatives. The term of office is three years. Qualifications for membership:
- Resident of the City of Vista
- 18 years of age
- Refer to the Vista Municipal Code Chapter 2.46 for additional eligibility requirements.
VCC Mobile Dental Services: VCC Mobile Dental Services will be at RMS three days from 2/25/2020 to 2/28/2020. Please encourage your students to inform their parents providing the link or consent form. Here are the links for parents: English link and Spanish link.
RMS Campus Tours: Our tours will run almost every Tuesday from now until April 7th. Tours will be led by ASB students starting at 3:45 pm and should last approximately 45 minutes. Students will be walking prospective families around campus and highlighting our wonderful programs. If you are available and can have your room open, that is great! Here is the FLYER that was sent to all elementary schools.
Sewing Club: Our RMS Sewing Club starts back up on Tuesday, January 28th. We can help all teachers with any projects that you may need for your class: make curtains, pillows, repair any piece of dress or personal item. Just let us know and we will let you know if we are able to help you with your request.
iReady Diagnostic #2: All students at RMS need to take Diagnostic #2 so we can measure our progress toward SPSA goals. Have your students complete by February 28th.
Spring Pictures are coming! Pictures will be taken on March 19th during both lunches in the MPR. Order Forms will be sent home in February.
Borrowing a Literacy Strategy from Band Class
"At its core, reading is basically an auditory process that happens to have some visual steps. We don’t get meaning from text—we get it from words, and to our brains, words are sounds. Our inner voice is the bridge between sight and sound. It also bridges sound and meaning, not just decoding the words but adding elements like fluidity and inflection. Just as we had to practice with our outer voice to develop clear speech, our inner voice requires modeling and experience."
Check out the steps this teacher takes to target students' "inner voice" and the ways these steps can support students with reaching comprehension in all areas!
