Principal's Message
Mariner Families and Community,
We are about halfway through the first quarter of Distance Learning 2.0. We’ve been encouraged by the number of students who are logging on daily to Schoology, and our attendance numbers have been good. Beginning on October 5th, parents will receive phone calls home when students are absent from class. It will be important that you call or email the school to let us know when students are absent so they can be excused. Please continue to encourage your students to participate in their learning daily, whether it be through Zoom meetings, completing assignments, or communicating with teachers. We appreciate your patience as we work through the varying technology issues that come with this new model of learning. I’ve been impressed with the parent engagement this past month. It’s critical that parents continue to advocate for your students to ensure they have the best education possible. Teachers are required to update their grades in Schoology/Qmlativ at least twice per month so both students and parents can monitor progress. Please contact the teachers directly if you have any questions about the class or grades. We are excited to host two Town Hall style meetings in the month of October. The first Town Hall meeting is on Thursday, October 8th, and it will be for 9th graders and their parents. The other Town Hall meeting will be an Open House for the entire school community. You’ll find more information about these meetings later in the newsletter. We’re looking forward to sharing more information about Mariner High School, and we remain hopeful that we’ll see our students in person at some point this year!
Go Marauders!

News from the Library
If your child forgot to turn in library books, English novels, and textbooks from last year, there is a return cart outside the office where students can drop off books Monday through Friday from 7:00-3:00. Our library staff is also contacting students as well regarding items not returned from last year through their school Outlook account.
We started the process of curbside checkout on September 28th. Students can place library books on hold through the Mariner High School Library Catalog and come and pick items up on Monday and Thursday from 1:00-2:15 or Wednesdays from 9:00-12:00. Students must receive an email confirmation from library staff in order to come and pick up books on campus. The books will be picked up in the hallway by the main office.

Stay Connected!
Information and news about Mariner High School are available in a variety of formats. This year, you will receive a phone message and email from the district if we close or delay school. This helps ensure we reach everyone, including those without an email address on file, before students stand outside at a bus stop, and before parents leave for work. If you added a text message number in the Blackboard portal https://mukilteoschooldistrict.bbcportal.com/ you would also receive a text message. As usual, school delays or closures will be posted on the district website and posted through FlashAlert, which also feeds into mainstream local news feeds.
