Raba Rattler
November'21
Principal's Message
We are now in our 2nd nine weeks and by now I hope that you've had an opportunity to schedule a meeting with your child’s teacher and go over where they stand in their new grade level. Our teachers have done an amazing job getting our year off to a good start.
Our Drive-Thru Fall Festival was a huge success. Thank you to all the volunteers that helped out in any way. We could not have done it without the help of all involved. I sure had a blast!! Kudos to our PTA for organizing this successful event that brought us together safely along with more PTA memberships. We hope to see the same support when it's time to raise funds in the spring for our little Rattlers to go on field trips. So thank you to the PTA Board, Raba teachers/staff and PTA volunteers. I look forward to seeing you all on Nov 9th for our 1st in person PTA meeting. Our 4th graders will perform and kindly ask two guests per child. A zoom link will be shared on Class Dojo as well. Hope to see and thank our veterans on Nov 11th at 9am for the Veteran's Day parade.
On November 18th, students in grades 3-5, will be taking a STAAR Reading Interim Assessment during the school day. This assessment will NOT be used as a grade, but as a guide for teachers to see where their students are. This is also a practice for students to learn how to use the online testing platform and online STAAR tools. In the state of Texas all STAAR tests are taken online. In an effort to get students prepared for that, we are giving them an opportunity to learn the system and how to use the different tools available to them in the online platform.
The Holidays are fast approaching and while we do look forward to those days... we also try our best to stay focused on our learning. One of our campus goals is to increase reading levels of all the students PK-5 by 10%. Reading is important at school and at home. We have also set a goal to increase student achievement in grades PK-5 by at least 10% in all subject areas. Please talk to your teachers to see what you can do to help us reach our goals. Our third goal is to decrease Attendance Warning Notices (AWN) by 10%. Decreasing AWNs is correlated to an increase in student achievement. Students in the classroom will learn, while students out of the classroom will miss out on essential teaching. Please help us reach our goals and make Raba the destination school in Northside.
Let’s Keep Moving Forward!
Yours in education,
Mrs. Francesca L. Neal
Walking Students To Class In The Morning
*Effective Nov 3rd, from 7am - 7:35 am, parents can walk their
child into school and be asked to leave by 7:40am (tardy bell) for instruction to start on time. As you are aware our students are not vaccinated so we strongly recommend you wear a mask and ask parents to walk their student(s) to their waiting area or classroom door. Eating breakfast or lunch with your child is not an option at this time. We are working on a parent location and will notify you with procedures once it’s set up.
PTA Meeting and 4th grade Performance
4th Grade will be performing Let's Eat by John Jacobson and Mac Huff immediately following the PTA meeting in the cafeteria on Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at 5:00pm. Only 2 guests per student will be allowed to be in attendance to view the performance. We can't wait to share this performance with you!
It's not too late to join PTA!
Fall Picture Retake November 17
If your student needs a retake they must turn in their original package on picture retake day!
IF YOUR STUDENT IS NEW OR WAS ABSENT ON THE ORIGINAL PICTURE DAY AND NEEDS AN ORDER FORM, THEY WILL BE HERE IN THE FRONT OFFICE!
Word From The Nurse
If your student is out sick with any COVID symptoms they need to have a negative PCR result or an alternate diagnosis by a doctor to return to campus. The documentation needs to be provided to the nurse before the student returns to campus.
PK & Kinder parents please keep a weather-appropriate change of clothes in your student's backpack.
Parents, please keep your telephone numbers updated in case of an emergency.

An essential part of our Rattler Student Leadership Program at Raba Elementary School is the Morning Meeting component. So what is "Morning Meeting"? Morning Meetings are a school-wide practice that originated from the Responsive Classroom model, which is based on the idea that students social-emotional growth is just as important as their academic growth. Morning Meetings are an engaging way to start each day, build a strong sense of community, and set children up for success socially and academically. Each morning, students and teachers gather in a circle for ten to fifteen minutes. The primary goal of morning meetings is to give students a safe environment that provides a sense of trust, allows students to feel important, and helps students separate from home and prepares the students for the day’s events.
During these second six weeks of school, we at Raba, have been focusing on the pillar of respect. We are also exploring what the following two tenets mean:
- Decision-Making and Self-Regulation
- Self-Identity & Understanding
