I Can Love My Family & God Wants My Family to Get Along
This Sunday preschoolers are learning "I Can Love My Family" (Joseph, Genesis 37, 39) while elementary kids are learning "God Wants My Family to Get Along" (Jacob & Esau, Genesis 25 & 27).
Here are some things we can learn from these Biblical families:
- Both stories reflect family conflict, but even more so they reflect the Lord's grace!
- Esau stole Jacob's birthright
- Joseph's brothers left him for dead
- God's promise didn't depend on Jacob or on Joseph or on their circumstances! They depended on Him! He was still able to fulfill what He promised He would do through their lineage.
What if the foundation we're laying in the lives of kids now with these truths, sets them on a different course for their future families? What if they are the beginning of a legacy of families that reflect how God intended us to live in this world. I know for me, I become more like Jesus as I live out these truths in my life- choosing love and choosing to get along and fight for unity no matter what circumstance or emotions may try to tell me.
