Culture Week
Culture Week is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of ISB’s multicultural student community. During this annual event, students have the chance to hear from parents, teachers, other students, and friends about their cultural and international experiences. Our theme this year is Cultural Identity: The Feeling of Belonging to a Group.
This week's activities include a keynote speech by teacher and activist Noriko Nakada and an international assembly on Monday, and cultural workshops on Tuesday morning. In addition, samples of cultural snacks will be handed out all week and on Friday students will have an opportunity to showcase traditional dress and celebrate cultural heritage at our annual International Night (this event is open to the community, 5:30-7:30 pm). Students are also creating self-portraits as part of the Students Rebuild - Facing Difference Challenge benefitting CARE and Search for Common Ground.
Culture Week will offer students more than 25 workshops to choose from this year including such topics as: Standing on Your Own One Foot – Leadership and Disability; Native American Insights; So You Are from Canada; and Genealogy for You. Additional presentations, such as music and dance workshops, and the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII, will be offered.
10th Grade Information Night
All sophomores and their parents/guardians are invited to an informational meeting Monday, February 12th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. ISB Counselors and the IB Diploma Program Coordinator will provide an overview of the Diploma Program, including requirements, elective options, and structures our school has in place to support student success. The information will help students make informed decisions about their forecasting choices to be made later that week.
Immunization Exclusion Day – February 21, 2018
State law requires that all children in public and private schools, preschools, Head Start and certified child care facilities have up-to-date immunizations, or have a religious or medical exemption.
Parents or guardians will receive a letter in early February if their child’s immunization record shows that he or she has not received the required vaccinations. Children will not be able to attend school or childcare starting February 21, 2018, if their records on file show missing immunization.

OSAC Scholarship Deadline Approaching
The OSAC (Office of Student Access and Completion) Scholarship deadline is quickly approaching. OSAC awards more than $18 million in scholarships annually. Awards range from $1,000 to $10,000 or more. Students don't need to be a merit scholar or a student with financial need to apply. OSAC administers more than 500 scholarship programs, and many students may qualify, but they won't know unless they apply! For more information visit: https://oregonstudentaid.gov/scholarships.aspx
The "Early Bird" application deadline is February 15th. Error-free applications are entered into a drawing for a $1000 scholarship. March 1st is the regular scholarship application deadline.
The application requires students to upload their 7th semester transcript (the transcript AFTER they have completed first semester senior year). We get these processed as soon as possible. Students should email their counselor for a PDF copy that they will be able to upload to their own application.
This YouTube video goes through application process step-by-step: https://youtu.be/gnJfYxbKIZM . Counselors are also available to help with questions regarding the application.
