February Tiger Tales
The latest news and updates from LGAE
Hi Tiger Families,
Every Friday morning, as our students head to the blacktop for our Tiger Time Assembly, we begin by sharing in the Peacebuilder Pledge.
If you haven't heard it before, it goes...
"I am a peacebuilder. I pledge to praise people, to give up put-downs, to seek wise people, to notice and speak up about hurts I have caused, to right wrongs, to help others. I will build peace at home, at school and in my community each day."
Our peacebuilder pledge is a reminder that we not only believe in academically supporting our students, but believe in developing their skills as empathetic, kind and compassionate citizens of our school community and the greater global community.
During the month of February, we take some extra time to learn from the peacebuilders of the past and honor our peacebuilders of the future. In alignment with Black History Month, we take time to pause and reflect on what it truly means to be a peacebuilder. We take additional time in our schools to educate our young people and focus on the contributions of African Americans to stories of our nation and events that shaped who we are as a culture today. We learn from peacebuilders like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jackie Robinson, Maya Angelou, Malcolm X and Rosa Parks, just to name a few, and learn that peacebuilding comes in many forms- through advocacy, through speech, through sports, through poetry, but with an ultimate goal of creating a more just and equitable world.
On February 25th, we will hold our annual Peacemaker Assembly. Although we cannot welcome families to campus physically, we will be virtually sharing our Peacemaker Assembly so that it is accessible to all families. Peacemakers within our community will be recognized and through song, dance, performance and poetry, we will celebrate African American history and the peacemakers of the past and present who inspire us!
Meet Our January Tiger Council
A special shoutout goes out to our amazing student leaders who represented their classes at our January Tiger Council meeting.
Each month, each class selects a council member to represent their class. These representatives voice their ideas, plan ways to better our school community and report back to their classrooms! This month's council will be helping to plan and lead our Peacemaker Assembly next month!
