With only 3 more school days until winter break, classes are all but wrapped up for Final Exams at HHS. Santa's elves are no doubt wrapping things up as well getting ready for Christmas in exactly one week! Over the last 6 days, the Brickies were busy celebrating SENIORS, making a splash, hooping it up and pinning it down! Across the board, "the stars were brightly shining" as our student-athletes continued to represent us extremely well with their WORK WORK WORK ETHIC and ATTITUDE. No need to go looking under the tree or in your stocking to find BRICKIE PRIDE this year ... our kids and coaches wear it on their sleeves every night!
Merry Christmas ... TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO you :)
I don't know about you, but all I want for Christmas ... is BricksCenter!

Wrestling
Girls
A week ago, the Lady Brickies participated in what is believed to be the FIRST EVER Girls Wrestling dual meet in NWI HISTORY when they traveled to Illiana Christian to battle the Lady Vikings and Rensselaer Lady Bombers ... both Ws for our girls! This past week was ANOTHER FIRST as in the FIRST EVER HOME MEET for Hobart Girls Wrestling! The Lady Bricks hosted Portage and Lake Central on Tuesday night and SHINED BRIGHT!!
The final score against LC was a 42-30 BRICKIE VICTORY and our girls backed it up with ANOTHER W over Portage by a score of 48-33 that included TWWWWWOOOOOOOOOO revenge matches! Juniors Keirys Click and Ja"Nyse Gates earned PINS over girls they had previously lost to earlier in the year! AMAZING!!
To add icing to the cake, it was SENIOR NIGHT!! Before competition began, senior grapplers Jayla Lacny, Sarah Romeo & Emma Spinks were all recognized with their families for their dedication and hard WORK WORK WORK committed to Brickie athletics during their high school careers!
*Side Note - The JROTC Color Guard, under the direction of Major Brian Carroll, presented the colors for the National Anthem prior to Tuesday's matches. In honor of the FIRST EVER Girls Wrestling home meet, Major Carroll put together what is believed to be the FIRST EVER ALL GIRLS Color Guard as well!! AWESOME!!
Boys
Hobart made TWWWOOOOOOOO stops on the BrickRode this past week ... a Wednesday night conference match-up against Andrean and the annual Hobart Super Duals on Saturday! Ohhhhh wrestling can be so frightful, but the Brickies' performance was so delightful!!On Wednesday night, Hobart hosted Andrean in their 3rd NCC contest of the season ... and our boys were simply AMAZING! Hobart won 13 out of 14 weight classes and sent the 59ers home with an 78-6 defeat!!! That's right ... the Brickies won by 72 points - WOW!!!! All in all, it was a GREAT NIGHT to be a Brickie and Hobart improved to 2-1 in Northwest Crossroads Conference action!
Saturday, the Brickies hosted the annual SUPER DUALS meet. This year's field matched the largest in recent memory with 10 teams competing for the coveted title. Hobart actually
entered TWWWOOOOOOOOOOOO teams after Goshen & Culver Academy had to withdraw.
As impressive as our boys were in Wednesday's THRASHING of Andrean, they may have been even more so on Saturday! The Hobart varsity team beat Valparaiso (51-22), Chesterton (43-30), Whiting (84-0), Lake Central (37-36) and Hanover Central (70-9)!!! The match of the day was no doubt when the Brickies BATTLED the LC Indians. The way this one went down was absolutely CRAZY!! Thanks to some late heroics from seniors Jonny McGill & Devin Wible, the Brickies tied it up at 36-36. With all 14 weight classes completed, there were no more matches to determine a winner. So ... coaches & referees went to the NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) Rule Book.
In the NFHS Wrestling Rules, there are 17 different scenarios (a-q) that can be used to determine a winner when the end result is a tie. In scenarios a-e, the Brickies and Indians were still even ... but when they got to scenario f (The team giving up the least number of forfeits) ... the Brickies WON thanks to LC having to forfeit 1 weight class! Like I said ... CRAZY!!!
End result? Our boys were 5-0 on the day and crowned 2022 SUPER DUAL CHAMPIONS!!! This is the 2nd consecutive Super Duals CHAMPIONSHIP won by the Brickies ... and in a field this strong, that is SOMETHING SPECIAL!! Like I said, the Brickies were delightful!!
So far, Hobart is 10-2 on the 2022-2023 #BRICKRODE ... including a 2-1 mark in NCC action!
The Brickies will travel travel to Mishawaka for the Al Smith Invitational after Christmas. GOOD LUCK BOYS!!

On the girls side, Morgan was crowned CHAMPION ... Tomich earned 6th place and senior Maci Luchene finished 8th! For the boys, Ferba was the overall runner-up and Robles was right on his heels in 3rd!!

Basketball
The Lady Brickies had only one game on the schedule this past week, but it was a BIG ONE @ Andrean on Saturday night. The '9ers have won 3 consecutive IHSAA Sectional titles, entered the contest at 7-1 and are currently ranked #6 in class 2A and #3 in the area. The Lady Bricks came in with an 8-2 record looking to serve an upset! Both teams came out firing in the 1st quarter and the blistering offensive pace did not slow down! Unfortunately, the Hobart shooters cooled a bit after the opening 8 minutes and the 59ers continued to burn the nets en route to an 84-58 win. Senior Asia Donald scored a game-high 29 points and junior Emma Ortiz added 10 in the loss.
Hobart is currently 8-3 overall with all three losses occurring in NCC play. Next up is the Lake Central Holiday Tournament on Tuesday & Wednesday, 12/27-12/28. GOOD LUCK LADIES!!
#SHEGOTGAME
Boys
Friday night, the Brickies opened Northwest Crossroads Conference play with a home tilt against Lowell. Anytime Hobart takes on the Red Devils, fans can expect to get their money's worth! The Brickies jumped out to an early 6-0 lead thanks to some full-court pressure D-D-D-DEFENSE and extended it to 17-8 after 8 minutes of play! Our boys kept their proverbial foot on the gas in the 2nd quarter and held a 29-16 advantage at the break!! Lowell battled back in the 3rd, cutting the Hobart lead to just 7 (40-33) heading into the final period and got within 2 at 43-41 with just over 4 minutes remaining. A HUGE rebound-putback by senior Vonzell Strayhorne put the Bricks back up by 4! The Devils got within 1 at 46-45, but sophomore Felix Lopez BURIED a HUGE 3 to get the cushion back to 4 at 49-45!! Over the final 90 seconds, our boys executed well and hit FTs to salt this one away and earned a HARD FOUGHT 55-49 VICTORY!! Junior Anthony Hnilo filled the stat sheet on Friday night with 15 points (on 6-for-6 shooting), 5 rebounds and 5 assists! Senior Keith Mullins added 16 pts and 9 rebounds and Strayhorne chipped in 7 in the win!
On Saturday, Hobart got up early and headed East for an afternoon match-up with Huntington North in the CHAMPIONS OF CHARACTER CLASSIC hosted by Grace College. There seemed to be a lid on the basket early on and the Bricks trailed 13-2 after 1 quarter. Showing resiliency and a lot of BRICKIE PRIDE, our boys BATTLED BACK ... outscoring the Vikings 23-16 over the middle two quarters to get within reach at 25-29 going into the final period!! Unfortunately, Huntington rattled off 11 straight points to open the 4th quarter. A score by Mullins ended the Viking run, but it was too little too late trailing 27-40 with just 3 minutes remaining. Ultimately, the Brickies lost a tough one 27-43. Mullins scored 8 points to lead Hobart and was backed up by classmate Gabe Dickerson with 7 in the loss.
The Brickies are now 4-2 and 1-0 in the NCC. Our boys have the week off from competition and will travel to Lake Station on 12/27 for a holiday tournament ... LET'S GO!!
