Principal's Report
I would like to acknowledge the huge job the Whānau and School House and Garden Committee have put in over a number of months to pull together last Sunday's fabulous Home and Garden Tour. This was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our great school community and their commitment to improving outcomes and opportunities for all our learners.
Thank you to the committee, the home owners, the parents, staff and students who were able to help, our wonderful local businesses that supported us with sponsorship and raffle prizes, and everyone who bought a ticket. Wow! What a stunning day!
The vibe on the day was very positive and it was wonderful to hear the comments and enthusiasm from all the visitors.
Everyone involved should be very proud of their mahi.
Ngā mihi nui,
Vicki

Covid in our Community
As I am sure you are aware, we have an increasing number of COVID cases in the Clutha area, including here at BPS. If your child is unwell, please keep them at home and test if they are symptomatic. If you require some RAT tests, please contact the school. We have a limited number of tests here at school.
Under the latest guidelines, if a member of your household tests positive, students may still come to school if they have no symptoms and have a negative RAT test. Students will need to be tested every morning while the positive case is isolating (7 days).

Whānau and School Update
Home and Garden Tour Update:
I'm not really sure where to start, as we are so very fortunate as a school community to be given so much by the wonderful South Otago community!!!
Please find a link below with a list of all the Raffle sponsors and a list all of the businesses who kindly donated money or items for the Home and Garden Tour. THANK YOU!! One way we can all say thank you, is by supporting these local businesses.
Another big THANK YOU is to the wonderful home owners who let us into their homes and gardens! This was so generous of them, especially as many of them don't have children at our school.
A massive THANK YOU to the our helpers leading up to the event and on the day!! For these events to work we need as many helpers as possible. Thank you to you all for giving up your time, before, during and after the event. It has all been worth it when we see the benefits our children will gain from everyone's efforts.
A very special mention is needed to the Home and Garden Tour Committee - Carleigh F, Sara S, Sarah V, Trista S, Alana J and Jackie M. Thank you for the many hours of work you did. It was a great day and much appreciated.
We are very excited to share that we are estimating approximately $9,000 profit from the event.
Have a great weekend and don't forget about the Party at the Park and Rainbow Run on Saturday!
Thanks
Sara Sutherland and Carleigh Frisby

Key Competencies at Balclutha School
At our last Board meeting, the Board of Trustees discussed our key competency achievement for term 4. Key Competencies are the life skills that students develop that enable them to participate effectively in society. This term the Board were focusing on the key competency of thinking.
We currently have 79% of all our students working within or beyond expectations for their age levels. This is up from 75% last year. Staff have analysed the data and have identified areas that can be adapted to support the students not yet meeting expectations.
Mufti Day on Monday!!
We are holding a mufti day on Monday 14th of November, to raise funds for Gumboot Friday.
This organisation gives young Kiwis, our precious rangatahi, free and fast access to qualified counselling. This service relies on the continued generosity of many New Zealanders. They need our help, we need yours.
Please send your child in mufti with a gold coin donation. Due to junior swimming, please ensure your child's clothes are named to avoid any confusion.
