Glaser Bio
I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, and still maintain strong roots there. After trying out a number of majors I earned my undergraduate degree in English Literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Teach For America then sent me to New Orleans where I spent two years teaching middle school science, math and American history. Having found my true calling, but holding no certification, I returned to Philadelphia and attended the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. After teaching high school English in the Philadelphia school district for a few years I got caught up in the Internet boom of the late ‘90s, building web pages and teaching coding at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. It was during this time that I met my wife, Gretchen, who was then a medical student. We had our first daughter, Mabel, at the end of her time in med school, and our second daughter, Dorothy, during her residency. Gretchen’s career then brought us to Rochester for the first time.
In 2010 I began work at John Adams Middle School with a .7 position teaching mostly study skills and one section of eighth grade English. The following year I upgraded to a 1.0 English position split between JA and Kellogg -- I kept this position the following year as well. And then we left.
At the end of her training at Mayo, Gretchen took a position in Roanoke, VA, and I returned to teaching high school. We remained in Roanoke for three years.
And that brings us up to date - in 2016 Gretchen returned to Mayo, and the Glasers returned to Rochester. I was lucky enough to get my old job back, and I’ve been teaching 7th grade English here ever since.
We love Rochester, and do not plan to leave, although we do love to travel - the photo is from our recent trip to Paris.
