PTO Directory Update

If you have joined the PTO, you should have received your PTO directory by now. If you did not receive yours, please contact Wendy Andersen (

We also have a correction to the list of 5th Grade Room Parents on page 16 of the Directory. We printed last year’s room parents in the Directory this year, but here is the new list which you can print and insert into your Directory if needed.

The Joseph-Beth Book Fair is Coming Soon!

We’re excited about our upcoming Book Fair. There will be hundreds of books available for the students to purchase. Prices will range from $2.50 to about $25.00, with the average price of a book being $6.00 or $7.00.

There will be something for all ages, so perhaps plan to get a head start on your holiday shopping. The Greene Book Fair will also have some of the more popular and newer books written by this year’s visiting author, Margaret Peterson Haddix.

The first day of the Fair is Thursday, October 27 and the final day is Friday, November 4. It will be open each weekday from 7:45 am -3:00 pm, and will also be open during ALL conferences times.

Your child’s class will visit the Book Fair during their regularly scheduled Home Base time. Students are also encouraged to visit the book fair independently any time during the week by getting a pass from their teacher.

Conference time is an excellent time to come with your child to shop at our Book Fair. We will remain open during the evening conferences on Thursday, October 27 and Thursday, November 3 until 8 PM. We will also be open on Conference Day, Friday, October 28. So . . . be sure to stop by the Media Center. We’ll be looking for you!

Additionally, we will be collecting loose change (or dollar bills) to help buy new books for the Operation Give Back library in Blue Ash. You can go to to learn more about that organization. There will be a jar at the Fair in which to donate your loose change (or dollar bills). Our goal is to donate $100 worth of new books to OGB.

Author Visit: Margaret Peterson Haddix

The Greene School is excited to announce that the guest author for the 2016-2017 school year is Margaret Peterson Haddix! She has written over 35 books and will be coming to Greene School on February 16, 2017 to speak about her experiences as an author. The Greene School is having a contest to see how many books by Margaret Peterson Haddix your child can read before her visit. Your child can win cool prizes as they progress through the levels of the contest. If you talk to your child about the author visit and contest, you are likely to sense great excitement. Perhaps you could read some of Haddix's books yourself if you want to join in on the fun. Some of her most popular books will be available for purchase at the upcoming Greene book fair Oct 27 - Nov 4.

Nurse's Update: Beating the Flu Bug

With flu season well upon us, it's good to remember how to prevent the spread of germs. Hand washing is the best and most effective way to keep yourself and others healthy. It is like a "do-it-yourself" vaccine!

Proper hand washing involves 5 steps:

This should take about 20 seconds to complete.

Always wash your hands before and after eating, after using the bathroom, after touching an animal and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing into your hands. If soap and water is unavailable, an alcohol based hand sanitizer is also effective.

Happy Scrubbing!

Vision Screening Sign Up!

Vision screening for all 5th graders is coming up on November 3rd and 4th. We are looking for volunteers from 9:00-11:00 and 11:00-1:00 on both days. A short training will be provided before we start. Please contact Julie Wolf at and list your availability if you are interested! This is a great opportunity to help out, and provides an important public health service! Thank you in advance!
