It's been a great week! We have lovely weather for tonight's Movie Night!
- Family Movie Night - (Turbo) is this evening, September, 30th. We hope to see many of you there! Park in the front and walk to the back lot for the movie. (Details below)
- Zionsville Fire Dept Safety Presentations (PreK-2nd grades) is next week.
- Jog-A-Thon donations are due this coming Wednesday, October 5th. We are so incredibly thankful for your support!
- Fall Parties will be October 7th, & Fall Break is the week of October 10th. (no school 10/10-10/14)
- Piano - Sign ups for our morning performances will come soon. However, we are still in need of suggestions for a name for our piano. Click here to suggest a fun, creative name by September 30th: PIANO NAME
- Student/Family/Teacher Conferences are on October 24th (3:00-5:00PM) & October 25th (11:00-7:00 PM). Remember, that Oct 25th will be an EDay for elementary students so that teachers can meet with families for conferences.

Counselor Corner - Routine, Consistency, and Attendance
As we continue into the school year, sometimes we wonder in what ways we can support our children in their growth. Creating and sticking to a consistent routine helps support children’s growth, creates a sense of comfort and safety, helps the child get on a schedule, establishes expectations and constructs a calmer environment as the child knows what to expect and what is expected of him/her. It also gives children confidence to learn independence.

School attendance is a part of routine and consistency as regular attendance is important in a child’s development. The Attendance Works organization states that attending school regularly helps children feel better about school—and themselves and to start building this habit in preschool so they learn right away that going to school on time, every day is important. Eventually, good attendance will be a skill that will help them succeed in high school and beyond. For grades 1-4, BME’s doors open at 7:50 and the bell rings at 8:00. Students need to be in the building by 8:00 so they will not be late to class. There are so many important routines in the morning that even missing a few minutes can cause strong emotions or their day to be off a bit. Kindergarten students can begin entering the building at 8:50 and need to be in the building by 9:00.

SECOND STEP
In Second Step, students have been learning ways to help focus their attention; follow directions (K: Follow Directions Link; Gr 1 Follow Directions Link); using self-talk (K: Self Talk Home Link; Gr 1 Self Talk Home Link; Gr 2 Using Self Talk Home Link) and being assertive (Gr 3 Being Assertive Home Link). Fourth grade has also learned to respect similarities and differences to understand that people may have similar or different feelings and views about the same situation (Home Link 4th grade).

School Safety: Visitors & Volunteers Background Checks
When volunteers are needed and approved, appropriate staff members will reach out to you in effort to welcome your support and assistance.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS
We value partnerships with our families and welcome parents and guardians to serve as volunteers in our schools. Each ZCS building typically offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities. If you plan to assist as chaperones or engage with children in a volunteer capacity, we strongly recommend getting a criminal background check completed well in advance to have on file.
Examples include:
- Field Trip Chaperones
- Out of Town/Overnight Chaperones
- Tutors
- Volunteer Coaches
- Classroom Helpers (PTO parties/room parents)
- Library Helpers
- After Prom Workers
- Field Day/Jog-A-Thon Volunteers
- Book Fair Sales/Athletic Ticket Sales
During the school day, all volunteers are expected to sign in at the front office. Prior to the volunteer opportunity, all volunteers must sign a Non-disclosure Acknowledgement Form and have successfully completed a Full Criminal History Background Check. Volunteers must also view the state mandated confidentiality/bullying video, provided on the Volunteer/BRAVO website.
CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS FOR VISITORS
During the school day, all visitors must enter via the front door and sign-in at the front office. Visitors need to be prepared to present a government issued photo ID which will be scanned against the National Sex Offender Registry. All visitors will be issued a visitor badge/tag to be worn inside the building at all times.

- Classroom Special Events (Grandparent Day/Famous Hoosiers/etc.)
- Parent/Teacher Conferences
