Kindergarten Registration continues
If you have incoming kindergarten students or know of neighbors who have incoming kindergarteners, please spread the word about fall kindergarten registration. Bring your child’s current immunization records and birth certificate for copying in order to register. Children must be 5 years old by August 31, 2019, to qualify for next fall’s kindergarten class.
Have you thought about how much time your family spends together in a week? Many studies show that spending quality time together as a family increases communication and the overall well-being of all family members. The following statements may give your family ideas on how to increase family time or reaffirm what you are currently doing:
- We eat dinner together most nights of the week.
- I set limits on the number of activities my kids take part in each day.
- We stick to bedtime routines and I spend at least five minutes talking with each child before they go to bed.
- We designate certain times as “no TV times.”
- We pick one night a week for Family Game Night or Family Activity Night.
I encourage you to have a conversation with your family about these ideas and see which ones you feel your family would benefit from trying out.
Thank you for bringing your students to school on time and prepared for learning each day.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact me at presleyj@monroe.wednet.edu or at
360-804-3400.
Sincerely,
Jeff Presley

Too sick for school?
We are seeing an increase in student absences due to illness. Please assist us at home in these ways:
- Practice hand washing with your child using soap and water. Hand sanitizer may be effective, but is not a substitute for hand washing.
- Remind your child to cover his/her coughs and sneezes and keep hands away from faces.
- Observe your child for signs of illness before sending him/her to school.
- Keep your child home if he/she has a fever of 100 degrees or higher, has other symptoms of illness, or is just not acting typically. If in doubt about whether your child is ill, please keep him/her home to observe.
- Remember that anyone sick with a temperature of 100 degrees or more, vomiting, or diarrhea must be symptom free for 24 hours (without the use of medications)
- Plan for alternate childcare in case your child becomes sick and you are unable to leave work.
We understand that additional time at home may be a hardship for families but it is necessary to help keep our school healthy. Please call the Health Room at (360) 804-3432 if you have any questions. Thank you for helping us keep our kids and our school healthy!
Student Transfers for 2019-20 School Year
Is your student attending Fryelands Elementary on a transfer? All transfer forms must be completed and returned each year.
A separate form is required for each child requesting a transfer. Forms are available online at https://www.monroe.wednet.edu/about/register-for-school/transfer-requests or at the District Administration Building, 200 E. Fremont Street. Visitors at school
Unless you have an appointment with a teacher, parents and guests are discouraged from visiting classrooms to drop off lunch or other items for a student. Those items can be left in the office.
Parents are welcome to eat lunch with a student.
Attendance
School attendance is a priority at Fryelands Elementary. Keeping students in school and safe every day takes the cooperation of parents and the school. IF YOU KNOW YOUR CHILD WILL HAVE TO MISS SCHOOL FOR ANY REASON, PLEASE SEND A NOTE OR CALL THE 24-hour ATTENDANCE LINE AT 360-804-3401. If parents do not contact the school by phone or note, the student is considered unexcused. (The office will attempt to contact the parent/guardian of any child who is marked absent without notification to the office.) Unexcused absences will be monitored and the school will follow district policy and state law.
TARDINESS
Tardiness interferes with individual progress and classroom procedures. Students who arrive at school after 8:55 are to report to the office to receive an admit slip. Parents will be contacted if chronic tardiness begins to disrupt the educational program. If a student shows a pattern of poor attendance through excessive tardiness, our guidance counselor will call to set up an appointment to offer any services that the school may be able to provide. You may request, in writing, a copy of your child’s attendance for review at any time.
