News You Can Use
November 23, 2021
It’s hard not to smile when someone offers genuine thanks. After 50+ days of school, we're bursting with gratitude for the many volunteers, idea leaders, project managers, PTA members and supporters that make our community strong.
If you seek some incredible ideas, look no further than our caring and kind RES Faculty and Staff who circle up weekly and pause to recognize others.
Our community has a compliment circle each week. We hand out compliment cards acknowledging the kind and selfless acts members of the RES Community work on a weekly basis.

We encourage you to take a moment this week and reach out to someone special in our community with a note of kindness. ….or better yet, create a Gratitude jar!

What's For Dinner? LATKES!
This week’s recipe comes from Traci Greenberg, who also provides us a short history of Hanukkah:
"Hanukkah begins November 28 and lasts for 8 nights. This holiday is also known as ‘The Festival of Lights.’ Every night we add a candle to the menorah to remember the miracle that happened. A long time ago, there was a special lamp that was to always be lit, but because of a war, the light went out! Thankfully, there was a small amount of oil that the Jewish people thought would only last one day, but it lasted 8 nights until new oil was made! During Hanukkah, we also celebrate by playing the dreidel game and eating latkes (a potato pancake)."
Stephanie Rich - Speech Therapy Specialist
I'm originally from NJ, graduated from UCONN, and went to grad school at USF in Tampa, FL. I've spent the last 12 years living two blocks from the beach in Virginia Beach, VA.
My family includes my husband, my two daughters (3 years, 6 years) and our dog. We just moved to Newtown in August, and I am surprised by the number of signs for fresh eggs I see as I drive. I fear I will need winter gear suitable for exploring the arctic to adjust to being back up north.
3 Facts About Me:
I love sports. I'm a die hard Huskies fan (who else has camped out for tickets to Gampel?) and I suffer along with fellow Giants fans.
I love being outside and my happy place is the beach.
My girls think I have awesome dance moves.
Why I Chose Speech Therapy:
I chose speech therapy as my career because of the opportunities in work settings and job availability it afforded me. I've worked for 12 years as an SLP - 3 years at a children's hospital and 9 years in the public schools. I've also spent several years working in early intervention.
This school year I am most excited to work with an awesome new special/general education team and the students at RES.
