Boals Anchor

Where our future is anchored in learning!

Boals News

Dear Boals' Families,

Thank you so much for making each of our staff members feel very special this week with all the thank you cards and words of appreciation. We love helping your children learn and grow each day. We appreciate you too!

Our second annual Spring Carnival is tomorrow, Friday, May 6th from 5:30-8:00PM . This is a fun family and community event. All students must be accompanied by an adult. Wristbands and tickets are currently being sold. You may contact the front office for more information. We hope you will join us tomorrow evening.

Boals Student Council will be holding a Food Drive beginning April 26th and concluding May 6th. The boxed food items that are collected will be brought to Frisco Family Services to help those families in Frisco that are in need. We ask that you only bring in unopened boxed food which will be collected by your child’s teacher. Thank you for helping those in need. More information about the food drive will be sent out next week.

Third, Fourth and Fifth grade students are scheduled to take the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) on Monday, May 9- 3rd and 4th grade math, Tuesday, May 10-3rd and 4th grade reading and Wednesday, May 11-5th grade science.

There are several things that you can do to help your child be successful on this very important test.

· Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep the night before the test.

· Prepare a healthy breakfast for your child on the morning of the test.

· Have your child arrive at school on time that morning to avoid feeling rushed.

· Send a snack with your student to have during the testing.

(Non-messy and quiet snacks are best)

· Do not schedule any medical appointments for your child on test day.

· Please do not plan to eat lunch with your child on test day.

· Finally, send your child to school with a hug and words of encouragement.

Ø Please note, CELL PHONES are NOT allowed in the classroom during testing. Any cell phones brought to school will be collected and stored in a locked cabinet until after testing.

Ø Due to test security, no visitors or volunteers are allowed in the building on a test day.

In gratitude,

Christina Beran

A Message from Nurse Olson

Field Day Reminders from Nurse Olson

Dear Boals Parents,

Field Day is coming up on May 20th! This is an exciting annual tradition at Boals. We will have a great day of fun and games! There are a few things you need to be aware of regarding seasonal allergies, sunscreen and asthma. Please take a moment to review this information to help your child have a great field day! J

SEASONAL ALLERGIES: The students will be outside playing in the grass all day. If your child has seasonal allergies, please administer their allergy medicine to them before school on Field Day. FISD does not provide allergy medication, so there is no allergy medication available in the clinic.

SUNSCREEN: Please remember to put sunscreen on your child BEFORE they come to school on Field Day. That way you know they’ve got it on and that it was well-applied. FISD considers sunscreen to be a medication, so it can’t be sent to school without paperwork being completed by your child’s doctor. FISD does not provide sunscreen for students, and teachers may not apply sunscreen to students. Students may not bring sunscreen to school without this paperwork. You are welcome to come to Field Day, and you may bring and apply sunscreen to your own child as needed.

ASTHMA: If your child has asthma and it is possible that they will need asthma medication during Field Day, please be aware of the following:

Per FISD Policy, all asthma medications are to be kept in the clinic and will be administered by Nurse Olson. Students are NOT allowed to carry ANY medication at school unless their doctor has completed a specific form which must also be signed by the parents, nurse and principal.

If your child has an inhaler, it will need to have the Rx label attached either to the box it came in or the inhaler itself. Please also send in your child’s spacer if they have one. If you no longer have the label or box, your pharmacy will be happy to print a new label for you for free.

If your child uses nebulized asthma medication, it has to have the Rx label on the box and I will need the mask, chamber and tubing as well. I have a neb machine here in the clinic that we can use. If you no longer have the label or box, your pharmacy will be happy to print a new label for you for free.

Please go to the following link on my website to find the forms you will need to complete and submit to me along with your child’s asthma medication:

https://sites.google.com/a/friscoisd.org/boals-nurse/printable-forms/required-paperwork-for-all-medications-or-medical-conditions

Please be specific about the medication and amount of medication your child needs {For example: "Two puffs of Albuterol inhaler every 4 hours as needed for asthma symptoms”.}

If your child’s doctor has already given you an Asthma Action Plan, I will gladly accept a copy of that, or make a copy to keep in the clinic if you bring it in to me. At the absolute minimum I need the “Parent Request for Medication Administration at School” form before I am able to administer asthma medication to your child at school. Having an action plan from your child’s doctor as well is highly encouraged.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I’m always happy to help! J

Sincerely,

Sue Olson RN, BSN
