Virtual Pirate Ship Class of 2020
Senior Class Edition of the Drake High School Newsletter
Dear Class of 2020-
It has been a year...from "Being Nice and Saying Hi "on Day One, to a Homecoming date change (thanks PSAT) confusion, to the tragic news about our fellow-Pirate, Shayne, our last-hope to save the Senior Tree, and so much more....you all have had quite the year. You are also the first ones to live through a global pandemic that has impacted every aspect of society like no other event we have seen in our time. I am grateful that you all will be the next batch of leaders taking our society forward from here, as I know you, and we, are in amazing hands.
This newsletter has been a few weeks in the planning. We have been hard at work trying to put together a celebration for you all that captures your uniqueness and that we are allowed to do! Please know there are many more details we will be providing and we wanted you to have the dates, times and outline for the major events.
I want you all to know that I am open to any other ideas or thoughts you have about what we have planned so far. We have stress and upset at every graduation but no other graduation has provided us the opportunity to think outside all the boxes, take ideas from far and wide and be as unique, creative and COMMUNITY BASED as this graduation will be for you all.
Please remember that you are a Pirate. You are full of grit, you understand loyalty and love, and you are willing to take risks to go where others only dream. You are the Pirate Class of 2020....never before AND never repeated! NO ONE else can say that and mean it like you all.
Here's to you!
Liz Seabury- Principal and Proud Pirate of the Class of 2020
Drake High School Graduation- June 12, 2020
The Class of 2020 is going to have graduation like no other class has ever seen at Drake High! If any class fits a one-of-a-kind graduation, it is the unique and one-of-a-kind Class of 2020!
The graduation plan is forming but we wanted to give you the rough plan as of today.
Here is what we know...
Date: June 12th, 2020
Time: 3:00-6:00 (?) (We will have much more detail on time after June 1st)
Location: Drake High School Gym Front Stage (pending final decision from County)
Details: Students will be arriving to graduation in their decorated cars or bikes, accompanied by their families or support friends/guardians. Graduates will receive their diplomas and continue along the graduation route through school. The event will (hopefully) be live streamed for friends and family to watch from home. There are MANY more details but this is the general idea!
Senior Celebration Awards Night
Also known as Senior Awards, this event is usually a dressy evening in our gym where we announce scholarship winners, Valedictorians and Salutatorians, recognition for service to our school community and academic achievements. In the past, we invited all the seniors who were receiving an award. This year we are CELEBRATING OUR ENTIRE CLASS OF 2020.
Please save the evening of May 28th and plan on a special evening together as a family. We will email out a video presentation of the SENIOR CELEBRATION and we invite you to a senior class community viewing at 6:30 pm. We hope you will make it a special evening together, get dressed up, and celebrate all you have accomplished in your four years as a high school student.

Student Slides for Graduation: To Do!!
We are putting together a collection of our SENIOR CLASS to build into our graduation ceremonies. We would like each of you and/or your parents to create a single Google Slide and send it to us before June 5th. The criteria for the slide is as follows:
Put your name on the slide;
Include pictures of yourself. At least one and no more than four.
We will be distributing Caps & Gowns on June 1. One of your pictures can be of you in your Cap & Gown. Feel free to decorate your cap!
You can write your “future plans” (college, career, gap year, etc.) if you would like.
You may include one quote or a thank you message. (Only include one and less than 15 words)
We will be looking at each slide to make sure it is appropriate and follows these guidelines, in both the pictures and the quotes. Please send your slide, no later than June 5th to Mary Chapman at mchapman@tamdistrict.org. Please email Mary Chapman or Assistant Principal Chad Stuart with any questions.
