About the Workshop:
Conference Description: During this mini-workshop, we’ll briefly examine what the CC Writing Standards demand of students, the various strategies teachers should incorporate into their daily instruction, and how to apply those strategies to help students meet the expectations of informational and narrative writing.
Outcomes:
*Explain seven key strategies to teach writing
*Develop writing assignments that address CC Writing Standards
*Examine student writing and determine how to assist the writer
Schedule:
8:00 am Check-in and Continental Breakfast
8:30- 9:00 Program begins with a review of the ten anchor standards for writing
9:00-9:30 Review of the seven strategies teachers should use to teach writing
9:30-10:30 Informational Writing
10:30-10:40 Break
10:40-11:30 Narrative writing
About the Presenter:
In 1997 he received a Fulbright Scholarship to study education in Japan. Most recently, he produced and wrote the script for Telling Their Stories, an hour long documentary aired on PBS about holocaust survivors living in New Hampshire. In addition to teaching writing to students from third grade through high school, Fred helped launch the Student Writers Academy at the University of New Hampshire where he has taught numerous courses in the Education Department. In 2009, Pearson published his book, "The Write Direction".
He holds a doctorate in Curriculum and Teaching from Boston University.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellation should be made in writing. A full refund will be made for cancellations postmarked, or sent via email, 7 days before the event.
No refunds will be given for requests received after 7 days before the event, or for "no shows". We do accept substitution of another person at our conference. 24 hours of notification is appreciated.
All received registrations are subject to Cancellation/Refund policy. Cost of registration fee is still liable whether payment is paid or unpaid, if no notice of cancellation is received at least 7 days prior to the event.
If minimum requirement enrollment is not met prior to the early registration deadline, the event may be postponed or canceled.
