LCAP SURVEY 2020

Dear Families,

This weekend we launched our new District wide survey through Thoughtexchange. We’ve had 30 thoughts shared by our school so far. Thank you to everyone who has already participated.

If you haven’t had a chance yet, click here to participate. https://my.thoughtexchange.com/#p915330432

If you have already shared your thoughts, please return and add stars to the new thoughts that have been added since you participated. That will help us understand what’s most important to the group.

Your input is really important to us so we can set District goals and budget priorities to support our mission in providing college, career, and life readiness to all students.

Participation will be open until February 14, 2020

NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY

JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2020

We’ve started reading the California Young Reader Medal nominees! Students have been enjoying these hilarious books so far. They’ll vote in March. The winners will be announced in May! Oh boy… can’t wait!

The Primary Category nominees are:

Students in 3rd - 5th grades are invited to read the following nominees by March 16th in the Intermediate Category:

If you read all three books, you can cast your vote in this category. Voting will take place in March.

In response to the Kindness Challenge, all classes were asked how they could encourage each other to be kind to one another. Stop by the library to read their responses on the Tree of Kindness. They’re impressive!

The Scholastic Book Fair is next week, February 3-7! Students look forward to this event all year. Watch this video to see what fun and exciting books there will be. You can support our teachers, the library and your child’s love of reading by attending this event. That’s a win-win for everybody!

Upon returning from the holiday break, students in the 5th grade discussed how to keep digital online friendships safe. We talked about the risks and benefits to managing these kinds of friendships and how to respond to different scenarios. Here are some tips for families to continue the discussion at home.

Happy Valentine’s Day,

Mrs. Whitelock,

Librarian

HEALTH OFFICE NOTES

Influenza Season

Cough, congestion and fevers are on the rise. Please, please do not send your student to school with a fever. If your child had a fever the night before, but did not have a fever when they woke up, do not send them to school! If your student is coughing and/or congested, it may be best to keep them home. We have had reported cases of Strep Throat and Influenza. We are just beginning the Influenza season. You know your child best. If they are not themselves, seem tired, glassy red eyes or just complaining a lot about not feeling well, they probably don't. Let them rest at home. If they have been sick with a fever for several days, let them rest an extra fever-free day. We have seen students return for a day and then go back home for falling asleep in class or spiking another fever or coughing uncontrollably. Give them time to recover their immune system. On Friday alone, the health office was swamped with students and many were sent home with fevers.

REMEMBER THE RULES:

MUST BE: FEVER-FREE

VOMIT-FREE

DIARRHEA-FREE

for 24-Hours BEFORE returning to school
