Message from the Principal

Hello Prairie Friends & Families,

What a year! Thank you for your ongoing support of our school community. We really did prove that we're stronger together in many ways throughout this school year. We couldn't do it without all of you!

We had a fun-filled last day of school. Students enjoyed field day, organized by the amazing Mr. Booth! We had back-to-back kickball matches between the staff and 5th-grade. Our 4th-graders are excited to try to defeat the staff next year! We cooled off with picnic lunches, popsicles, and a movie. We also finished the year with an all-school read-aloud. We read the book What the Road Said by Cleo Wade. What the Road Said's inside cover reminds us that...

"It's okay to be afraid or to sometimes wander down the wrong path. What the Road Said encourages us to lead with kindness and curiosity, remembering that the most important thing we can do in life is keep going."

This year we kept going, as a team, throughout many twists and turns that came our way. Our team is so incredibly proud of our learners and how they continued to grow throughout our time together.

This year we are wishing several staff members well on the road that is ahead for each of them... Mrs. Anderson (school secretary), Mrs. Hanson (educational assistant), Mrs. Anderson (art teacher), Mrs. Szuslik (Title I Reading Interventionist), Ms. Moore (literacy instructional coach). You all will be missed!

We look forward to welcoming Mrs. Maura Eyl to the team as our new secretary. She is already training with Mrs. Anderson! We are in the process of hiring a new art teacher. Mrs. Shanan Borresen will join our team as our new literacy instructional coach. She has been coaching at Whittier and STEM-Randall for the past several years. Mrs. Borresen will work at Prairie 100% of the time.

Report cards are available for viewing in Infinite Campus today. There is more information included below.

Keep an eye on your email throughout the summer! I will be scheduling several outdoor events for our learners to participate in throughout the summer at Prairie if your family is available. We will host Jump Start for our 4K and 5K learners on the morning of August 16th. This event will allow our youngest learners to come to school to meet the teachers and get a feel for what the school day will be like before all of our other learners arrive. Our PTA is also hosting a fundraiser at Food Truck Friday near the airport on August 13th. We will release teacher assignments in Infinite Campus at the end of August, with our Open House being scheduled shortly after that. More information will come your way all of these events later this summer.

All of us are wishing you and your families a joy-filled summer! We look forward to seeing all of Team Prairie back together in the fall!

We are Team Prairie!

We are stronger together!

Thank you from Mrs. Anderson, Prairie Secretary

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for allowing me to be a part of your children's school lives. I've so enjoyed watching them grow and learn over the years. I will miss the Prairie students, families and staff but am ready for the next chapter in my life.

Thank you so much for all of the messages, cards, and gifts for my retirement. I have so appreciated your friendship and support over the years. Best of luck to you and your families in the years to come.

Enjoy this summer! I still hope to see you in and around Waukesha!

Art News

Dear Prairie Parents, Guardians and Students,

Oh what a year this has been! It looks like we are all going to make it through the pandemic and able to head into summer for some well-deserved rest & recuperation time.

I have learned so much from the students this year. I admire their resilience, determination, “Can-Do attitude” and their flexibility. I have also learned some valuable lessons from the pandemic. Most importantly, I have learned not to take things for granted. I have also learned the importance of “living in the moment” and enjoying the present.

It is these realizations that have given me the courage to leave my career as an Art Teacher and try something new. This was a very difficult decision for me as I still LOVE interacting with the kids and watching them learn & grow. This career is what I have focused (and often over-focused) on for the last 26 years. I started my teaching journey at Prairie Elementary in 1995. It seems to make perfect sense to me that this is also the place where I make my exit.

Getting to know the families and students at Prairie has been nothing short of fantastic. I have truly enjoyed my time working with the students & families at Prairie.

I look forward to the next opportunities and adventures that come my way. Remember to “Seize the Day”!!!

Take Care,

Mrs. (Art) Anderson

A Special Message from our PTA

The PTA would like to thank our Prairie community for the support during this challenging past year. Without the ability to host events at school this year, the ability to raise funds has been disrupted. However, we were able to continue to support our teachers and students this past year. In addition to the new playground, the PTA was able to support the teachers by providing $3523.69 in teacher allocations (funds each teacher is allotted to use how they see fit in their classroom). We are very glad to continue that support this year, but we know next year will be even harder due to the lack of fundraising. The funds raised this year totaled $4814.97. The PTA typically funds Teacher Allocations, Student Events (Field trips, Ice Cream social, Halloween dance, Puma Palooza, 5th Grade graduation celebration, etc.)

We are hopeful to raise enough funds to continue to support these efforts next year and beyond! We need the support of our community to continue to help our teachers and students. Please consider making a donation directly to the PTA. These funds are 100% used to support our school staff and students.

THANK YOU!

GOT SNEAKERS FUNDRAISER: Thank you to all of those who have already donated shoes to our fundraiser. As spring cleaning is starting up remember this is an ongoing fundraiser so keep searching for shoes! Did you know that your gently worn sneakers could help Prairie PTA? Prairie PTA is participating in a fundraiser where you donate your shoes. All we need is your support and your gently worn, used ,or new sneakers! Here’s how you can help. Start in your and your family’s closets and gather as many pairs of sneakers that you no longer want; maybe you’ve out-grown them, they’re out of style, or out of season. If you and your household have 20 pairs, great! If not, don’t worry. You can ask your neighbors, friends, co-workers, and anyone in your social networks to help out. Every pair counts! The sneakers that we all collect will help raise money to support Prairie PTA AND will help our environment by keeping sneakers out of landfills.

All you have to do is send your children to school with your sneakers or drop them off at school. Please no boots or dress shoes or sandals. Every pair that is donated earns up to $7 per pair.
