With the cold and flu viruses spreading rapidly in our area, a reminder that school policy for illness states that children need to be fever and symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school. Tylenol and Motrin help bring the fever down, but fevers most likely return after a few hours. Unfortunately, we have to send many students home when the medicine wears off and fevers return.
Please help us keep the illnessess at bay and keep your child home if he or she has been feverish, vomiting or has diarrhea.
NEWS FROM THE ARTS TEAM
Hello there. This month all grades are working on self- portraits. Since Dr. Seuss’s birthday is in March, the next projects for the kindergarten and first grade will be inspired by him. Kindergarteners will create a work of art using markers and hot air balloons as the subject. This inspiration comes from his book “Oh the places you will go”. First graders will design their own fish after being inspired by the crazy fish in Dr. Seuss’ book “Mr. McElligot’s Pool”. They will use two different kinds of paint (acrylic and watercolor) to complete their artwork. Second grade will begin working on a still life with everyday objects.
February is upon us already and music class is progressing along nicely. All the students are working to learn the foundations of music including the steady beat, rhythms and music appreciation with composer studies and various different music styles. The kindergarten class is also preparing for their concert which is next month and is called “Sight Word Soup”. Mark the date for March 12, 2024 at 6:30pm to come and support the kindergarten class in their first concert. The first grade students are starting to prepare for their concert which is in April and they will be coming home singing new songs and working on their lines soon. They are also working on more complicated rhythms and learning about the composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Second grade will be starting their world music studies. They will be studying instruments, culture and songs from Africa to Asia, to South America and will also be learning the Star Spangled Banner next month and all about the poet, Francis Scott Key. I hope you all have a wonderful February and stay warm!!
