Peek at the Week

LANGUAGE ARTS -

This week we will be starting a new Imagine It unit on friendship and storytelling. We will be a reading "Tomas and the Library Lady". Students will be reviewing grammar and take a spelling test on Friday.

This month, in our efforts to prepare our students for fourth grade, the reading log will look similar to what students will use next year. Each day, students will be required to write something or answer a question based on what they read during their 25 minutes of reading each day. Students will turn this reading log in each Monday. Please sign your child's reading log and encourage them to do their best work. Thanks!

SCIENCE-

Students are working on a plant and animal book that reviews what they have learned the past few weeks. We will be sharing these books with the kindergartners! This project will take the place of a unit test.

HISTORY-

Beginning this week we will be learning about early explorers who discovered North America. We will be studying several explorers including Ponce de Leon, Christopher Columbus, Hernando de Soto, Henry Hudson and more! Students will learn where each explorer came from and when they arrived on American soil.

WRITING-

Students are typing their research papers this week. They will also be downloading pictures and putting them on each page of writing! You will be so impressed with their final project!

I would highly recommend using some sort of typing program over the summer and encouraging your child to use the home row with two hands when typing. See the link below for a free and fun typing website. Typing today was an adventure!

SPELLING-

On Friday there will be a test on Unit 6 Lesson 1. Students should be studying their spelling words each day. They can use https://www.spellingcity.com/ndonnay/ . Test fixes are due each Monday.

CHARACTER EDUCATION -

Each month students should bring in an example of the monthly character trait to hang on our class bulletin board. May's trait of the month is SERVICE. Ask your child how they can show courage at school and at home. SERVICE bulletin board items were due on May 6th. Please turn this in ASAP!

ASK YOUR CHILD
