"Ready, Set, Go!" September 2014

Tablet Distribution

On Wednesday, September 10th, students from each grade level were issued an Amplify tablet and case. Students were led through a brief registration process and "Viola," the tablets now displayed a notebook for each of their classes. The enthusiasm and excitement at having these new and improved digital resources was evident by the smiles on students' faces.

App of the Month

Lensoo

Lensoo is a virtual whiteboard where teachers and students can write/draw and record their voices simultaneously. Students can use this App to work out a math problem and explain their thinking, draw a scene from a story and explain its importance, or create a pictorial timeline of historical events. These are just some of the many ways in which this App can be used. Students can then email their recordings to the teacher or send it through Amplify Playlist. Tablets can also connect to the projector for a whole-class viewing.

Upcoming PACE Events

Each grade level will host a parent/guardian night geared toward highlighting ways in which the tablets are used in the classroom, in combination with a "meet the team" portion.

  • Seventh Grade Introduction to Tablet Night: October 7th, 6:00-7:00 pm
  • Sixth Grade Introduction to Tablet Night: October 8th, 6:00-7:00 pm
  • Eighth Grade Introduction to Tablet Night: October 9th, 6:00-7:00 pm
  • All students will take tablets home: October 9th

What is a Personalized Learning Environment?

A personalized learning environment is one where sound instructional practices are utilized by teachers on a daily basis. In doing so, the teacher determines a student’s personal and academic needs, and they work together to pursue a learning path and pace that is well-suited for the learner. This powerful partnership allows students to take ownership of their learning, while having the support and guidance of the classroom teacher. The tablet is simply a tool for the teacher to use to enhance the instructional practices already in place.

Students can demonstrate their understanding of a learning objective by developing a product of their own choosing. Teachers may provide a choice board, a learning menu, or a learning contract that allows students to tap into areas of interest, which ultimately increases motivation.
