NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 1 | 20 JULY 2022
Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers
Yesterday we had a whole school gathering to welcome everyone back to school. It was wonderful to sense the enthusiastic energy for all the learning opportunities and events scheduled in Term 3. We are delighted to welcome you all back to school.
Thank you Ms Zanetti
I would like to acknowledge and thank Ms Zanetti for so ably leading the school in my absence at the end of last term. Our extended leadership team, our administration team and all staff are also to be thanked for the support they provided Ms Zanetti and for the extraordinary work they do every day to make this school run so efficiently and effectively.
New behaviour management trial
At our gathering with the children yesterday, we spoke about our new behaviour management trial for Term 3. All children will start the term with 3 points for ‘good standing’. We have categorised behaviours that range from minor behaviour that may require a reminder, all the way through to severe behaviour that impacts the safety and wellbeing of others. Certain behaviours will attract a loss of good standing points or even a lunch time detention which will involve a reflection activity. If your child gets a detention, you will be informed.
Our behaviour management process is predicated upon teaching and modelling desired behaviour outcomes and when a misdemeanour occurs, applying a consequence and providing our students with the opportunity to reflect and grow from the experience. Our fortnightly behaviour focus for the next two weeks is ‘being considerate of and polite to others’. We ask that parents work with us on our behaviour focus at home too.
Once our behaviour trial has been completed, we will publish our behaviour philosophy and procedure for parents to read.
Kiss and Drive
Towards the end of Term 2, we noticed how busy Kiss and Drive had become. Mindful of the fact that there is risk involved when we have large numbers of pedestrians and moving vehicles in one area, we have asked that from Term 3, Year 4, 5 and 6 students are picked up from the Koman Way gate unless they have family in Years 1, 2 and/or 3, in which case they can join their family to be picked up from Kiss and Drive.
Also from this term, we require all Kindy and Pre-Primary families to pick their children up from the classroom, as Kindy and Pre-Primary children are too young to use the Kiss and Drive.
School finishes at 2.50pm
Parents are reminded that school finishes at 2.50pm and children should be collected on time. Young children can become distressed if parents are consistently late in picking them up. Kindy and Pre-Primary students who are not collected on time from the classroom, will be brought to the front office from where they can be collected.
Update your child's medical plan
A reminder that if your child has developed an allergy, asthma or medical condition that our school needs a copy of their medical plan so that we can appropriately take care of their medical needs during the school day. Any updates to existing medical plans, needs to be given to the school.
Keep sick children at home
Families are asked to please keep sick children at home. While we manage a third wave of Covid illness, we ask that families regularly RAT test sick children and keep positive Covid children at home for the required 7-day isolation period from the date of testing.
No gum or smart watches at school
Families are reminded that no gum is to be brought to school. We are also asking families to not allow their children to wear smart watches to school. Some of these watches have cameras on them and allow children access to their messages during the school day. This would be equivalent to allowing children to carry mobile phones and it is not appropriate. We thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Developing relationships
When I addressed the whole school assembly yesterday, I spoke to the children about the importance of placing effort into developing three relationships in our lives: a relationship with God, a relationship with others and a relationship with nature. Our school helps children develop and strengthen relationships in all these areas.
We look forward to an exciting and enriching Term 3.
