The Summer Institute
High School Summer Course Opportunities
About Us
Framingham High School (FHS) and The Department of Community Resource Development (CRD) are proud to introduce ‘The FHS Summer Institute’, a reimagining of summer school. The FHS Summer Institute will offer two types of courses: Original Credit and Credit Recovery.
Original Credit classes are condensed versions of electives that are traditionally offered during the school year. Original Credit classes, offered by The FHS Summer Institute, will meet Monday through Friday for four weeks. Students that pass an Original Credit class will be granted a .5 credit towards the graduation requirements of that classes’ discipline. Passing a Summer Institute class allows for more freedom and control over a student's schedule the following academic year. All students are encouraged to register!
Original Credit classes include, but are not limited to:
Introduction to Digital Photography
Health Education
Creative Writing
Lifetime Activities (Physical Education)
Study Skills
Painting & Drawing
Painting 2
Psychology and more!
Credit Recovery classes provide FHS students who are missing credits the opportunity to redo coursework or retake a class —and thereby avoid failure and earn academic credit.
Schedule and Times:
The Summer Institute program begins June 27, 2019 and runs through Friday, July 25, 2019. Credit Recovery classes take place Monday through Friday and students can enroll in a morning session (8:00am - 10:30am) or mid-day session (10:35am - 1:05pm). There are no classes on July 4th or 5th.
New This Year
The Summer Institute will employ an English as a Second Language (ESL) Teacher to rotate through the classes twice a week to offer assignment support to individual students or student groups who need extra help.
There will be limited financial assistance available based on need. Families interested in pursuing support should email the coordinator.
