Lansing Elementary Weekly Update
Newsletter for the Lansing Elementary School Family
September 2, 2023
Dear Families,
We had a wonderful week! We resumed outside recess as our heat wave ended and continued practicing routines and expectations. Our car rider dismissal moved more smoothly. Families who pick up students by car are asked to double check that placards are visible during dismissal to facilitate our process. If you need a new placard, please reach out to us at LESTransportation@usd469.net
Last week, we also had our District Health & Wellness Committee Meeting, our PTA family skate night and our weekly late start. As a reminder, any family needing care for their K-5 student from 8:00-9:00 can receive this for free through Y-care on Late Start Thursdays. Please sign up below. We do not have adult supervision on the playgrounds before 9:00 on Late Start Thursdays.
This week we have no school for staff and students on Monday, Substitute Appreciation week, Mini-Cheer Practice for families who have signed up on Wednesday and Thursday, and our Lansing High School Varsity football game on Friday. Our min-cheer performers should be at the high school football field by 6:20. Please see Dr. Penrose's message (our high school principal) below about our rules for spectators at high school sports.
This week we will dress in Kansas City Chief's gear/ colors on Thursday for their fist game and in Lansing colors for the first varsity football game. All are welcome to participate. Thursday is also our physical therapist appreciation day!
Our mySAEBRS opt-in form is now available to families who have students in 2nd and/ or 3rd grade. This is our social, academic, and emotional behavior risk screener, Please take a moment to indicate if you would like to opt your student in or out. The questions are provided below. We are able to provide supports to students who display outward behaviors. This survey also helps us identify students who may have internal behaviors in need of support. https://forms.gle/6bHzFts6rqf6KTGv9
We are excited to offer a free resource for parents and guardians through our Behavior Intervention Support Team. This is a virtual class that aligns with the behavior intervention supports that we provide in Lansing School District. Please see more information below. The deadline to register is September 15th. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kpJaWHQHpCzDV3WmlWSe-PGiKgVxXHi7/view?usp=sharing

A Message From Dr. Penrose (Lansing High School Principal)
I want to give you a heads up on a change for events at the high school. This will primarily effect football and basketball but is in place for all activities.
- Student performances are the focus of the event. No one should be on the practice football field, soccer fields, or other areas away from the stadium
- All elementary, intermediate, and middle school aged students attending this season's high school home sporting events and activities must have a parent or guardian present with them to enter
- The middle school cheering section is on the south side of the stadium near the concession stand
- Students cannot enter the stadium from the tailgate area
- Please do not bring balls, frisbees, or other items to the game
- Spectators who are disruptive will be asked to leave
Our LHS home football games are:
Friday, September 8, 2023
Friday, September 22, 2023
Friday, October 13, 2023
Friday, October 20, 2023
